Role & Responsibilities

We are seeking a hands-on VMware to Hyper-V Migration Engineer to support an enterprise virtualization migration initiative for a large organization. This is a delivery-focused, individual contributor role — you will be responsible for executing VM migrations from VMware to Hyper-V, ensuring workload continuity, and collaborating with a distributed team across multiple time zones. The ideal candidate is technically deep on both VMware and Hyper-V and has done this migration work before in a production environment.

• Plan and execute migration of virtual machines from VMware vSphere/ESXi environments to Microsoft Hyper-V
• Assess and inventory existing VMware workloads to identify migration dependencies, resource requirements, and compatibility considerations
• Configure and validate Hyper-V host environments to receive migrated workloads
• Utilize migration tooling (such as Microsoft MVMC, Azure Migrate, or equivalent) to facilitate VM conversions
• Perform pre- and post-migration testing to validate workload integrity, performance, and connectivity
• Troubleshoot migration failures, compatibility issues, and performance degradation across source and destination environments
• Document migration plans, runbooks, cutover procedures, and post-migration validation results
• Coordinate migration windows and communicate status to cross-functional teams across LA, Denver, and NYC
• Identify and escalate risks or blockers that could impact migration timelines or workload availability

Essential Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience migrating virtual machines from VMware vSphere/ESXi to Microsoft Hyper-V in a production environment — this is the primary requirement
• Deep working knowledge of VMware — vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, VM configuration, snapshots, storage, and networking
• Strong Hyper-V proficiency — VM configuration, virtual switches, storage, live migration, and Hyper-V Manager/SCVMM
• Experience with VM migration tooling — Microsoft MVMC, Azure Migrate, SCVMM, or comparable tools
• Ability to assess workload compatibility and identify migration risks prior to execution
• Strong troubleshooting skills across virtualization, storage, and networking layers
• Experience documenting migration runbooks, cutover plans, and validation procedures
• Comfortable working independently and collaborating with distributed teams across multiple time zones

Bonus Qualifications

• VMware certifications — VCP-DCV or equivalent
• Microsoft certifications — MCSE, Azure or Hyper-V related
• Experience with Azure Migrate for on-premises to cloud or Hyper-V migrations
• Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation of migration tasks
• Experience in enterprise environments with large-scale VM estates
