DepartmentBSD PED - Neurology About the Department The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago is a dynamic and stimulating place to work. In addition to our provision of clinical care at UChicago Medicine (UCM) Comer Children's Hospital and at our regional sites, we are currently expanding our clinical care across Northern Illinois and Northwestern Indiana. In collaboration with our partners in the Chicagoland Children's Health Alliance (CCHA; Advocate Children's Hospital, and NorthShore University Health System). CCHA has responsibility for the care of almost 1 million children. The Department has expanded its presence to numerous satellite sites of care across the region with the goal of providing care 'close to home' whenever feasible ( Our mission is to improve the health of every child entrusted to us, in an inclusive environment that is committed to family-centered care, clinical excellence, impactful scholarship, effective disease prevention, and advocacy for the appropriate care of every child. Job Summary The job uses best practices and knowledge of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation, and research. Responsibilities Provide direct patient care and formulate plan of care in collaboration with physician, nursing staff, and the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the Credentials Committee. Communicate follow-up plan/disposition with the follow-up health care provider. Prescribe and evaluate pharmacological therapies according to protocol. Attend both high and low- risk deliveries as needed. Stabilize and transport patients as needed. Demonstrate in-depth understanding of current professional and legal trends, concepts, and issues related to practice. Identify educational needs of family members and assist with teaching as appropriate. Ensure that appropriate systems and resources are in place to maintain established standards of care. Participate in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care. Participate in the development, review, and evaluation of policies and procedures. Participate in developing and implementing QI monitoring. Participate in providing in-service and outreach education program. Act as resource for clinical skills for staff on or of the unit. May participate in clinical research projects conducted by supervising physicians. Serve as preceptor to APP students. Interprets assessments, treatments, outcomes work and disability status, and screenings in a thorough manner. Maintains clear and concise records for individual and corporate clients to meet the requirements of the department, the company and any applicable standards or laws. Analyzes test data or images to inform diagnosis or treatment. Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions. Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization. Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient's plan of care. Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, or older adults. Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education:Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college. Work Experience:Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications:Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois Preferred Qualifications Education:Advanced nursing degree from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. Experience:1-2 years of clinical experience in a related area of specialty. Previous experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in Pediatrics and/or Pediatric Neurology. Licenses and Certifications for Advanced Practice Nurse: FNP certification as family nurse practitioner. Current Advanced Practice Nurse license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date. Once licensed, apply for a mid-level practitioner-controlled license and DEA number. Licenses and Certifications for Physician Assistant: Current Physician Assistant license/registration in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date. Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) by start date. Once licensed, apply for a mid-level practitioner-controlled license and DEA number. Preferred Competencies Demonstrated clinical competency. Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments. Detail oriented. Ability to work effectively under pressure.
