Lab Assistant/Hospital Tech

Summit Pathology is looking to add an enthusiastic team player to our fast‑paced, growing pathology company as a Pathology Hospital Tech. The hours for this position are variable, usually between 7:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. in rotation through the hospitals and 9:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m. in rotation through our main lab. This position will routinely rotate to UCHealth and Banner facilities within Northern Colorado, including locations in Greeley, Loveland, and Fort Collins. This position will be posted until filled. As a Hospital Tech you will work closely with Pathologists and hospital staff to provide exceptional care to patients through assisting with processing and preparation of surgical and cytology specimens. We take pride in providing outstanding general surgical pathology as well as high‑level expertise in breast pathology, cytopathology, hematopathology (including flow cytometry), gastrointestinal pathology, dermatopathology, transfusion medicine, microbiology, and clinical chemistry. Responsibilities And Duties Assess specimen quality, make necessary corrections, and prepare the specimen for processing or grossing. Accession specimens into the supported LIS system and perform data entry. Ensure absolute accuracy in identification and accessioning of numbers and names. Conduct accurate quality control of requisitions. File blocks and slides daily, maintain the slide file room. Rotate through various hospital facilities and become accustomed to all areas of the hospital. Assist on routine needle procedures including fine‑needle aspirations, CT biopsies, and endoscopy procedures; prepare slides and staining. Assist with frozen section specimens from operating rooms. Handle inventory, upkeep, and organization of the off‑site gross rooms. Interact with hospital staff, answer and triage phone calls with positive customer interactions and proper etiquette. Collaborate with team members to complete lab responsibilities and meet department goals. Participate in department activities to improve patient care/lab systems, share new information with team members, attend meetings, and orient/mentor new staff as requested. Follow all procedures and policies, demonstrating competency and proficiency as required. Follow safety standards, report or remove unsafe equipment, and attend safety education sessions. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned based on Summit Pathology needs or requirements. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements Assoc. degree (or higher) in a laboratory science from an accredited institution; bachelor’s degree preferred. Ability to work independently and effectively problem‑solve issues. Ability to organize work and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality to protect patient privacy. Excellent customer service skills. Competency and accuracy using multiple computer systems. Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Previous data entry or laboratory/healthcare experience preferred. Benefits Starting pay: $22 per hour. Five medical insurance options by Aetna.
