Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum one year of relevant nursing experience License: State RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Trauma 1 and Epic experience Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and resources within the institution's philosophy. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. They implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. They complete an initial assessment upon patient admission and develop an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. They modify the plan of care based on continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. They communicate with others directly and in private to resolve issues as necessary. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. They identify their own learning needs and take initiation to begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. The RN receives patient bedside shift reports from another RN at the beginning of each shift, ensuring the inclusion of patient input. They perform visual validation of a safe patient room environment at the time of shift change and update the patient communication board. The RN delegates patient care tasks/responsibilities to assigned team members and validates the completion of delegated tasks throughout the shift. They complete and document basic RN patient care activities, such as assessments, interpretation of vital signs, physician order completion, admission/discharge of patients, and care plan documentation. The RN meets documentation standards for each assigned patient. They provide patient medications utilizing the five rights: right patient, right medication, right route, right dose, and right time. The RN maintains patient safety as the highest priority, ensuring compliance with safety measures such as fall precautions and pressure ulcer prevention. They maintain a positive attitude that promotes a healthy work environment and a healing patient environment. The RN promptly answers patient call lights to ensure effective triage and completion of patient requests. They use critical thinking to evaluate the overall patient condition and act on changes in patient status. The RN effectively communicates within the healthcare team to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and patient safety. They manage time effectively to enable quick admission/discharge processes for observation status patients. The RN facilitates completion of patient testing to move patients quickly toward discharge disposition.
