Job Description

The Restoration Technician plays a key role in responding to property emergencies and restoring damaged homes and businesses. This position focuses on water, fire, storm, and mold damage, using specialized equipment and techniques to return structures to a safe and functional condition. You will work directly with customers during stressful events, providing both technical expertise and compassionate service while performing hands-on restoration in the field.

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to emergency calls for water, fire, storm, and mold damage situations.
• Perform water extraction and structural drying, including setting up, monitoring, and removing drying equipment.
• Carry out fire and smoke cleaning, including soot removal, odor elimination, and debris cleanup.
• Conduct microbial (mold) remediation in accordance with safety protocols and industry standards.
• Assist with general building restoration, repairing damaged structures and materials after emergencies.
• Use carpentry skills to support structural repairs and restoration tasks as needed.
• Measure, cut, and install materials accurately using tape measures, hand tools, and power tools.
• Handle restoration equipment and tools safely, performing basic maintenance and proper storage.
• Interact professionally with customers on-site, explaining work being performed and answering basic questions.
• Demonstrate empathy and professionalism when working with clients who have experienced property loss.
• Follow all safety guidelines, including use of personal protective equipment, especially when exposed to smoke, mold, and water-damaged areas.
• Complete required documentation and job-related paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
• Work full-time daytime shifts (typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and remain on the job until tasks are completed when needed.
• Participate in an on-call rotation, typically once per week, to respond to after-hours or urgent situations.
• Travel to job sites in the region, including homes, businesses, and disaster-affected properties.
• Collaborate with team members on-site to complete projects efficiently and to quality standards.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area on job sites and in company vehicles.

Essential Skills

• Experience or strong interest in restoration, construction, or a related hands-on trade.
• Basic carpentry skills to assist with structural repairs and restoration tasks.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for cutting and installing materials.
• Proficiency in using common hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
• Strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with property owners.
• Physical ability to perform a highly active role, including lifting, carrying equipment, and working in varied conditions.
• Willingness to work full-time hours and stay until the job is finished when required.
• Availability to participate in an on-call rotation approximately once per week.
• Valid drivers license.
• Ability to pass a drug test.
• Ability to pass a bckground check.
• Ability to pass a motor vehicle record check.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior restoration experience, especially in water, fire, storm, or mold damage, is highly valued.
• Experience in commercial construction or building trades is a plus.
• OSHA 10 certification is preferred.
• Comfort working in environments affected by smoke, mold, and water leaks.
• Ability to adapt to a busier workload during the winter season.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in fast-paced field conditions.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a field crew and follow direction from supervisors and project leads.

Work Environment

This is a field-based position working on-site in homes, businesses, and disaster-affected properties rather than in a traditional office setting. The work environment is not climate controlled, and you will frequently encounter conditions related to smoke, mold, water leaks, and other damage. The role is physically active, requiring regular lifting, carrying, and handling of restoration equipment and building materials. You will use a range of tools, including tape measures, hand tools, power tools, and drying and remediation equipment. Standard hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but you are expected to stay until the job is finished when necessary, and to be on-call approximately once per week for emergency response. Travel is generally local or regional and typically under 25%. The pace can increase during the winter season, which is the busiest period, and appropriate protective gear is used when working around smoke, mold, and water-damaged areas.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Overland Park, KS.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
