Nurse Extern Cardiology Stepdown PRN

Mission Health, a leading healthcare provider based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a compassionate and motivated Nurse Extern to join our Cardiology Stepdown unit on a PRN (as-needed) basis. In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses and the interprofessional care team to support high-quality, evidence-based care for patients with complex cardiac conditions who require close monitoring in a stepdown environment. As a Nurse Extern, you will build critical clinical skills while gaining exposure to advanced cardiology care, telemetry monitoring, and stepdown-level nursing workflows. Working alongside experienced RNs, physicians, and allied health professionals, you will assist with basic patient care activities such as vital sign collection, intake and output monitoring, safe patient positioning and mobility, personal hygiene, and comfort measures. You will support the cardiology team by helping prepare patients for procedures, assisting with post-procedure observation, and promptly reporting changes in patient status, especially related to cardiac rhythm, hemodynamics, and respiratory function. You will learn to recognize and communicate early warning signs while reinforcing Mission Health’s commitment to patient safety, quality, and compassionate care. The Nurse Extern Cardiology Stepdown PRN will help maintain a clean, safe, and organized unit; accurately document care within the electronic medical record; and collaborate closely with the care team to support individualized, patient-centered care plans. Under guidance, you may assist with tasks such as ECG lead placement, telemetry equipment checks, collection of specimens, and coordination of care activities including transport and discharge preparation. You will consistently follow infection prevention protocols, fall-reduction practices, and hospital policies and procedures.
