Purchasing Clerk

Location: Sandston, VA
Job Type: Full-Time, Salaried Non-Exempt

Position Summary

Wise Staffing Group is seeking an organized and detail-oriented  Purchasing Clerk for a full-time opportunity in Sandston, VA. This position is responsible for purchasing production and office supplies, monitoring inventory levels, coordinating deliveries with suppliers, and maintaining accurate purchasing records.

The ideal candidate will have previous purchasing experience, strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar business software. Experience working in a manufacturing environment is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and issue purchase orders accurately and in a timely manner.
• Communicate with suppliers regarding orders, shipment status, delivery schedules, and product availability.
• Track deliveries and work with suppliers to resolve shipping discrepancies or order issues.
• Monitor inventory levels and identify when materials and supplies need to be replenished.
• Maintain accurate pricing records for products and supplies.
• Research pricing, product availability, supplier options, and purchasing terms to identify the best overall value.
• Monitor supplier pricing and notify management of upcoming price increases.
• Identify alternative products or suppliers when necessary to improve cost, availability, or delivery timelines.
• Maintain detailed and accurate records of purchase orders, contracts, delivery confirmations, pricing information, and related documentation.
• Ensure purchasing activities are completed in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Communicate effectively with internal departments, management, and external suppliers.
• Utilize Microsoft Office and other business software to maintain purchasing records and complete daily tasks.
• Assist with identifying opportunities to improve purchasing processes, cost efficiency, and product availability.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 2 years of purchasing experience required.
• Previous purchasing experience in a  manufacturing environment preferred .
• Experience in the  corrugated packaging industry is a plus .
• College degree preferred, but not required with relevant experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and related business software.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams and suppliers.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with the following experience are strongly encouraged to apply:

• Purchasing or procurement experience in manufacturing
• Experience purchasing production materials and supplies
• Corrugated packaging or related manufacturing experience
• Vendor and supplier management
• Inventory management
• Purchase order processing
• Pricing and cost analysis

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand as required throughout the workday.
• Frequent use of hands to handle materials, documents, and office equipment.
• Ability to reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to occasionally sit for extended periods.
• Must have adequate close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception to perform essential job functions.

Work Environment

• Combination of office and manufacturing/production environment.
• Portions of the facility are  not climate  controlled and temperatures may range from approximately 30&degree;F to 110&degree;F .
• Employees may occasionally be exposed to typical manufacturing conditions, including noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.
• All company safety policies and procedures must be followed.
