Examiner Nurse Practitioner – Travel As a Travel Examiner, you will be conducting Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in relation to their in‑service injury claims. You will work on a Mobile Medical Unit, in shared spaces, and assist in clinics covering gaps in staffing needs. The role involves reviewing claims, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran. These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive as a result of service‑connected health issues. Our clinical insights play a significant role in facilitating access to treatment subspecialists, when necessary, ensuring continuity of care. Clinical Examiners use a web‑based examination form in a proprietary online system to capture patient information throughout the examination process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, be adaptable to changing situations, and possess basic computer skills. Pay: Base + Monthly Incentive Plan = $133,120–$163,120 per year Job Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other documentation to fully understand the veteran’s health condition. Render objective medical opinions based on examination findings, diagnostics, and record reviews, outlining the extent of health issues and the veteran’s ability to work and conduct daily activities. Maintain familiarity with case‑management systems, organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance team. Coordinate and collaborate with other healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts to obtain additional medical information and insights. Accurately document examination findings and recommendations in clear reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations. Partner with all relevant departments to leverage resources that enable task completion and deadline adherence. Manage time effectively, confirming availability and scheduling for all C&P exams. Ensure compliance and quality by adhering to all laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations. Collaborate with the QA team to submit thorough and accurate examination findings. Maintain compliance with all VA training requirements and stay updated on VA MDE program requirements. Safeguard confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA and other privacy protocols. Travel primarily to the following states: ME, VT, NH, MA, RI, CT, DE, NY, NJ, PA, OH, MI, IN, IL, MO. Qualifications Graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; not barred from practicing in any state or territory. At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner. Experience conducting medical disability examinations or related field is preferred. Basic Life Support certification, including renewals. Previous military experience or familiarity with the military/veteran communities is preferred. Completion of specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous. Proficiency in conducting comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence‑based opinions. Compassionate approach toward patients, ensuring a respectful and patient‑centered evaluation process. Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills for interpreting complex medical information and reaching objective conclusions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to present findings to diverse audiences. Ethical integrity, maintaining objectivity, and ensuring fairness in evaluations. Detail‑oriented mindset focusing on accuracy, data quality, and alignment with VA standards. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills, capable of managing multiple initiatives and adapting to changing priorities.
