Veterinary Technician

The Fremont Police Department - Animal Services Division is recruiting for the position of Veterinary Technician. This role offers a unique opportunity to serve the Fremont community by providing compassionate, high-quality care to the animals in our City's Animal Shelter. As a Veterinarian Technician, you'll directly improve the quality of life for both animals and residents by supporting adoptions, promoting responsible pet ownership, and advancing community programs such as TNR and access-to-care initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

• Manage a population of approximately 25 dogs and 30 cats housed in the shelter or in foster. Partner with the veterinarian on housing, sanitation, animal husbandry, medical care (including rabies quarantines) and behavioral care. Provide direction to animal care staff.
• Provide preventative care as appropriate for species, including spay/neuter, and counsel potential adopters on medical and behavioral conditions.
• Partner with the Animal Services Supervisors on inventory management, shelter records and controlled substance recordkeeping.
• Support Animal Service Officers with medical/behavioral triage and forensic investigations.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience in euthanasia or high volume spay/neuter.
• Experience in interpreting and enforcing animal related laws.
