Job Title: Registered Nurse, Profession: RN (Registered Nurse), Specialty: PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit), Duration: 13 weeks, Shift: 12H Days Varied (any day M-F), Hours per Shift: Guaranteed 36 hours per week, Experience: Minimum of 2 years, License: Valid nursing license, Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, Must-Have: Acute recovery experience. Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Shifts are 12 hours long, with varied days from Monday to Friday. Start times vary from 0500 to 0930. Call is required, with a response time of 30 minutes. The unit comprises 8 PACU beds and 7 Pre-Cert beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:1 or 1:2. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. There is a charge nurse on the unit. Nurse aides are not available. There is no weekend requirement for in-house staff. Holidays will rotate among core staff. Scrub colors are provided. Telemetry is available, and the nurse must be able to read and interpret EKG strips. Ventilator management is not required. A hospitalist or intensivist is available in-house. An IV team is available if necessary. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are also available 24/7. Shifts are varied with call specifics including roughly 5 weekend call shifts and 8 weeknight shifts per quarter. Weeknight shifts are from 2200 to 0500 or 2200 to 0700. Weekend shifts are from 0700 to 1900 or 1900 to 0700. Floating between units may occur as needed. Common diagnoses include total hips, knees, general surgeries, daVinci procedures, neurology, and urology. This is not a trauma hospital, but PACU may handle ICU patients until beds open up in the unit. The cancellation policy allows the hospital to cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment. Charting is completed through the Cerner system. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required.
