Responsibilities Perform highly skilled carpentry tasks in accordance with standard trade practices. Carry out alterations, repairs, and maintenance of structures and facilities. Conduct skilled bench work and operate power saws, jointers, wood lathes, planers, boring, sanding, and mortising machines. Clean, sharpen, and repair hand and bench tools. Execute wall and floor repairs, ceiling tile replacements, and annual roof inspections. Maintain building envelopes, including exterior repairs and window work. Carry out miscellaneous carpentry repairs, shelf and cabinet fabrication, fire door inspections, and painting. Fabricate temporary wood and metal structures, sign fabrication, and other construction components as needed. Respond to emergency maintenance requests and perform door hinge and latch repairs. Lead and supervise qualified craft workers, interns, skilled maintainers, students, seasonal help, or other lower-level employees as assigned. Other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Considerable knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, and practices in the carpentry trade. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Basic computer skills for preparing estimates and maintaining shop records. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience and Training Four (4) years of general experience in the carpentry trade. Two (2) years of specialized experience performing skilled trade functions in the repair/maintenance of commercial buildings, including installation and repair of commercial door hardware. Substitution: graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma in a maintenance trade area may substitute for two (2) years of general experience. Substitution: two (2) years as a Qualified Craft Worker Intern may substitute for general and special experience. Special Requirements May be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines. May be required to possess appropriate current licenses or permits. Preferred Experience / Qualifications Considerable knowledge of flat roof construction, repair, and inspection. Knowledge of welding, machining, and metal fabrication. Physical Requirements Incumbents must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity, and maintain physical fitness to perform job duties. A physical examination may be required. Working Conditions Incumbents may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights, be exposed to extreme weather conditions, and face risk of injury from equipment. Schedule Full-time: 75 hours every two weeks, primarily Monday – Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Holidays are required as scheduled. May be required to work other shifts, including weekends, to accommodate departmental or project needs. 30‑minute unpaid meal break.
