Job Summary

Join our dynamic healthcare team as a dedicated Emergency Room Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel contract in Gardner, Massachusetts. This role offers the opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced emergency setting, serving a diverse patient population ranging from critical trauma to general medical emergencies.

The ER RN is responsible for the full scope of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. You will play a crucial role in stabilizing patients, administering critical medications, managing complex cases, and ensuring patient safety and comfort during their most vulnerable moments.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive nursing interventions and patient care plans.
• Provide direct patient care in accordance with established standards of care, practice, protocols, and policies.
• Prioritize patient care needs, including recognizing the need for emergency intervention and seeking appropriate resources.
• Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely and accurately, including vasoactive medications and critical drips.
• Perform initial patient assessments upon arrival and implement triage protocols as needed.
• Conduct thorough pain assessments, reassess effectiveness of pain control, and document patient responses.
• Identify and respond to patients at risk for potential abuse (domestic violence, child, elder), initiating safety plans and completing mandated reports.
• Collect and maintain forensic evidence according to policy and chain of custody procedures.
• Interpret normal and abnormal laboratory and diagnostic results, notifying physicians of changes in a timely manner.
• Accurately identify cardiac arrhythmias and manage thrombolytic and anticoagulation therapies.
• Initiate and maintain care for intubated patients, including suctioning, troubleshooting, and weaning.
• Interpret arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, and clinical features of impaired gas exchange.
• Implement components of the Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) bundle consistently per protocol.
• Provide patient and family education based on identified learning needs and barriers.
• Collaboratively plan and prepare patients/families for discharge, incorporating support systems and resources.
• Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by other healthcare team members.
