A leading New York City real estate firm specializing in residential properties is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its accounting team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys hands-on accounting responsibilities while contributing to financial analysis and reporting within a dynamic in-office environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of residential properties
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and accounting schedules
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Analyze financial results, identify variances, and provide meaningful financial insights
- Assist with budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting
- Review general ledger activity and ensure accuracy of accounting records
- Support the Controller with special projects and process improvements
- Collaborate with property management and internal teams on accounting-related matters
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, fully in-office environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
