Nuclear Medicine Technologist

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs technical duties in support of diagnostic nuclear cardiology procedures, including SPECT and cardiac PET/CT imaging. Administers radiopharmaceuticals and pharmacologic stress agents, operates nuclear imaging equipment, and assists in producing high-quality diagnostic studies. Maintains compliance with radiation safety standards and assists with departmental operations to support efficient and safe patient care. Primary Responsibilities Performs and monitors the full range of Myocardial Perfusion Imaging studies and other nuclear medicine studies (SPECT and PET/CT). Reviews and analyzes any testing issues and recommends or implements solutions. Responsible for using current data and methods to obtain required results in accordance with Nuclear Cardiology standards. Evaluates study data to ensure accuracy and quality. Prepares radiopharmaceuticals and pharmacologic stress agents for patient administration. Performs and ensures quality control of nuclear imaging and laboratory equipment, including PET/CT and SPECT cameras and associated systems. Calibrates, adjusts and maintains equipment such as well counters, PET/CT and SPECT cameras and dose calibrators. Performs or delegates work requests in relation to patient care. Identifies self to patient and maintains excellent customer service skills. Explains procedures to patients and initiates IV access as required for testing. Monitors patient condition throughout procedures and ensures patient comfort and safety. Administers radiopharmaceuticals and pharmacologic stress agents and responds appropriately to patient reactions or complications. Processes imaging data and archives clinical studies within the imaging system. Reviews and proofreads clinical data acquired during procedures to ensure accuracy. Assures diagnostic quality control of images. Confers with Nuclear Cardiologists as needed Maintains diagnostic quality of imaging studies and communicates abnormal or urgent findings to Nuclear Cardiologists when appropriate. Maintains record of patient pharmaceuticals given, examinations performed, scans taken, patient radiopharmaceutical and dose administered, and results of equipment quality control and calibration. Assists in training and orientation of new Nuclear Medicine Technologists on imaging systems and departmental procedures. Adheres to radiation safety policies and procedures to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.Ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations related to radioactive materials handling, storage, and disposal Ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations related to radioactive materials handling, storage, and disposal Maintains and complies with IAC Nuclear/PET accreditation standards. Perform all other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Associate degree required; degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field preferred Minimum of one year of Nuclear Cardiology or Nuclear Medicine experience preferred Must hold certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Must maintain applicable state certification or licensure as required CPR certification required or must obtain within three months of hire Required Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the principles, concepts and methodologies of Nuclear Medicine Technology Knowledge of human anatomy and physiological processes relevant to nuclear cardiology imaging Verbal and written communication skills Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to recognize abnormal imaging results and elevate concerns appropriately Ability to maintain accurate clinical documentation and regulatory records Ability to safely operate nuclear imaging equipment and monitoring devices Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team Ability to safely assist patients during imaging procedures Must have excellent time management and organizational skills Must have excellent interpersonal skills including excellent customer service to both patients and co-workers #J-18808-Ljbffr
