Directs and controls the operation of the Grocery Department, including supervising and training personnel to achieve departmental and store sales and profit objectives. Provides feedback and recommendations on operational issues and personnel decisions to Store Director and Division management. Main Responsibilities Champions corporate and division customer service programs; instills a culture of excellent customer service. Responsible for total store operations and directing associates throughout the store, including department managers, in the absence or as needed by the Store Director. Manages the Grocery Department: planning, organizing, and directing day‑to‑day operations of the Grocery department, including dairy and frozen food sections; conducts inspections to ensure compliance with product quality, rotation, cleanliness, sanitation, safety, security, pricing, coupons, and discount policies. Implements Company and Division operating and merchandising policies; controls merchandise shrink; supervises inventory counts; establishes operating procedures; implements emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions. Orders grocery products and maintains inventory levels; supervises reclamation; maintains orderly stock conditions; supervises receiving, stocking, pricing, and merchandising. Engages in suggestive selling; monitors daily log sheet, purchase reports, and actual versus projected sales and labor. Prepares and displays appropriate product signage. Directs work of Grocery Department associates: schedules, trains, participates in hiring; instructs on policies and procedures; monitors performance; implements personnel actions; builds morale; resolves complaints; reports serious violations to the Store Director. Uses the store and department profit and loss statement to plan promotions; communicates sales goals and opportunities to associates. Answers telephone calls and resolves customer complaints; maintains confidentiality and accurate records. Performs all duties with honesty, integrity, and compliance with company policies; attends required training and sales meetings. Qualifications Extensive retail background with prior management experience related to retail operations. Thorough understanding of company practices, policies, and procedures. Strong written and oral communication, leadership and interpersonal skills; proven ability to manage and develop people; composure in dealing with customers, vendors, and co‑workers. Friendly, courteous, initiative, concentration, and effective communication with all levels of personnel. Analytical ability to handle administrative details: planning, reporting, scheduling, supervising, hiring and disciplinary recommendations; basic math, weights, and measures. Knowledge of product variety, location, and perishability; ability to work long hours including weekends and holidays with little supervision. Knowledge of checkstand scanning and loss prevention procedures; ability to train others; operating front‑end cash registers and scanning equipment. Experience implementing emergency procedures for disaster or equipment/software malfunctions. Ability to stand, walk, lift, stack, and maneuver objects up to approximately 80 lbs; may climb ladders; operate hand trucks, six‑wheel carts, and pallet jacks. Compliance with company policies, attendance, grooming standards, dress code; knowledge of employment laws and workplace practices; compliance with state and federal regulations.
