Overview:
As a Laboratory Specimen Processing Technician, you will support crucial functions within a busy specimen processing department, helping to ensure that laboratory tests are performed accurately and efficiently. Responsibilities:

• Perform specimen processing tasks including presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging/microfilming in accordance with quality standards.
• Handle the pickup, delivery, and transport of specimens within the laboratory to ensure timely processing.
• Accurately enter test data into laboratory information systems, ensuring at least 6,000 keystrokes per hour with a high level of precision.
• Maintain proper specimen labeling, documentation, and chain-of-custody procedures.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment, practicing good biohazard safety habits.
• Assist with specimen accessioning based on test orders, with a focus on understanding different specimen types and associated test requirements.
• Adapt to changing priorities and procedures, demonstrating flexibility in a high-volume, production-focused setting.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, contributing to a positive, collaborative workplace.
• Support compliance with regulatory standards and departmental policies, ensuring specimen integrity and customer satisfaction.

Required Skills:

• Strong data entry skills, capable of entering 6,000+ alphanumeric keystrokes per hour with accuracy.
• Basic understanding of computers and laboratory information systems.
• Excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written.
• Good organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during shifts.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, including PPE (lab coats, gloves, goggles, masks).
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license to commute to the laboratory location reliably.

Nice to Have Skills:

• Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience.
• Medical terminology knowledge applicable to clinical laboratory settings.
• Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish and English, to support diverse patient and staff populations.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience in a laboratory, hospital, or production environment is a plus, but not mandatory.
• Medical background or familiarity with laboratory testing processes is advantageous.

Other Requirements:

• Availability to work primarily on the night shift, with flexibility for weekends, holidays, and overtime based on staffing needs.
• Must demonstrate punctuality, attendance, and full shift commitment; excessive absenteeism or tardiness may impact employment.
• Ability to work in a biohazard environment while practicing proper safety protocols.
• Physical ability to lift, stand, sit, and perform repetitive tasks for long periods.
