Lead Systems Engineer

ResponsibilitiesPeraton is seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position supports Peraton's federal customer as part of an application transformation and modernization initiative.This program is driving a large-scale transformation of systems into a data-centric, cloud-native ecosystem capable of supporting high-volume, near real-time data processing and advanced analytics. The work includes modernization of legacy applications, development of new cloud-native solutions, and implementation of DevSecOps and scaled Agile practices across the organization.As a Lead Systems Engineer at Peraton, you will drive end-to-end systems engineering execution across a large-scale federal modernization program.You will operate between architecture and delivery—ensuring that system designs are translated into working, integrated, and scalable solutions. You will lead engineering efforts across multiple teams, coordinating system integration, requirements alignment, and technical execution.Location: Suitland, MD (Hybrid)Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:Provide technical leadership across systems engineering efforts within the DTAM programTranslate architectural designs into actionable engineering plans and executionDefine and manage system requirements, interfaces, and integration pointsLead system integration across applications, data platforms, and cloud environmentsEnsure systems meet performance, scalability, reliability, and security requirementsIdentify and resolve technical risks, dependencies, and integration challengesSupport modernization efforts by engineering transitions from legacy to cloud native systemsCollaborate with architects, developers, data engineers, and program leadership to ensure alignmentDrive adoption of DevSecOps practices, enabling automation, testing, and continuous deliveryParticipate in stakeholder discussions, providing technical insight and decision supportMentor engineering teams and enforce systems engineering best practicesQualificationsBasic Qualifications:Bachelors degree and 16 years of experience or an Associates degree and 18 years of experience or a High School diploma/equivalent and 20 years of experience.Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance15+ years of experience in systems engineering, integration, or technical leadership rolesProven experience supporting large-scale, complex IT systems or modernization programsStrong experience with systems engineering principles, including requirements, integration, and validationExperience integrating complex systems across applications, data platforms, and infrastructureExperience working in cloud-based environments and modern distributed systemsUnderstanding of DevSecOps practices and system engineering within CI/CD environmentsAbility to manage system complexity across multiple teams and technical domainsPreferred Qualifications:Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)Agile certifications (Scrum, SAFe, or similar)Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP)Experience supporting large-scale federal programsExperience with large-scale data systems or real-time processing environmentsPeraton OverviewPeraton is a next-generation national security company that drives missions of consequence spanning the globe and extending to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
