Lead Organizer

Make the Road Nevada (MRNV), a 501(c)(3) organization, holds a vision for Nevada that begins with building a strong grassroots foundation in Las Vegas and it ends with elevating the power of working-class immigrant communities in every community around the state. We do this by informing, empowering, and mobilizing our community to take action on important issues that directly affect their families and loved ones.

Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization, is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most.

Make the Road States (MRstates), a 501(c)(3) organization, is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations that serve to uplift the voices of working-class immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color.

Current Opening:

The Lead Organizer (LO) is an experienced community organizer and campaigner, coalition-builder, and strategist who believes deeply in the importance of building community leadership, capacity, and power. The Lead Organizer will support base organizers to lead campaigns around local, state, and federal issues.

Reporting to the Organizing Director, the Lead Organizer would be responsible for managing and supporting the organizing department, identifying any issues/struggles organizers are facing, setting metrics and goals for the organizing team, encouraging leadership within the organizing team, as well as leadership development within our membership.

Responsibilities of the Lead Organizer include, but are not limited to

General Responsibilities

• Support the Organizing Director in implementing organizing strategies, departmental priorities, and campaign plans.
• Assist in coordinating organizing activities across campaigns to ensure goals, timelines, and organizational standards are met.
• Assist in preparing reports, stories, campaign updates, and other materials to support funder communications and grant reporting.
• Foster strong working relationships with organizers, cross-departmental staff, coalition partners, and community organizations.
• Support civic engagement and political education efforts by assisting with member training, events, and campaign activities.
• Maintain accurate campaign data, member records, and reporting using the organization's CRM and organizing databases.
• Monitor campaign metrics and prepare reports for the Organizing Director to support planning and evaluation.
• Help strengthen member recruitment, engagement, and retention by coordinating outreach, follow-up, and leadership development efforts.
• Support rapid-response efforts, including coordinating member mobilizations, community actions, advocacy, and organizational responses to emerging issues affecting community members.

Organizing Team Leadership

• Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and support to organizers and interns.
• Conduct regular check-ins to monitor progress, address challenges, and ensure organizers are meeting campaign goals.
• Assist the Organizing Director in training, onboarding, and developing organizing staff.
• Coordinate weekly organizing work plans and support implementation of campaign tactics, including canvasses, phone banks, text banks, rallies, meetings, press events, and community actions.
• Promote collaboration, accountability, and effective communication across the organizing team.
• Identify challenges in campaign implementation and recommend solutions to the Organizing Director.
• Support conflict resolution and maintain a positive, collaborative team culture.

Budget & Operations Support

• Assist the Organizing Director with developing and monitoring departmental and campaign budgets.
• Track organizing expenses, maintain budget records, and ensure expenditures remain within approved budget guidelines.
• Coordinate purchasing and resource distribution for organizing activities and events.
• Assist with logistical planning for meetings, training, actions, and community events.

Coalition & Community Engagement

• Build and maintain relationships with community members, coalition partners, and allied organizations.
• Represent MRNV/MRA-NV at coalition meetings, community events, and public forums as assigned.
• Support members in developing leadership, advocacy, and public speaking skills.
• Assist with coordinating partnerships that advance campaign and organizational goals.
• Responsible for participating in coalition meetings, community events, media interviews, filming opportunities, public forums, and other external engagements, while preparing and supporting members to participate in public-facing activities.

Member Leadership Development

• Recruit, engage, and develop community members into active leaders.
• Support the planning and facilitation of membership meetings, committee meetings, trainings, and leadership development activities.
• Mentor member leaders to recruit, organize, and mobilize others in support of organizational campaigns.
• Encourage meaningful member participation in advocacy, civic engagement, and organizational activities.

Requirements:

• Authorized to work in the United States.
• 2-3 years of supervisory or management experience.
• 2-3 years of community organizing or campaign experience.
• Must be Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Experience developing and managing budgets.
• Demonstrated commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and project management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse communities and partners.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
• Ability to learn and use databases, CRM systems, and communication platforms.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Must be able to and ability to travel

Salary and Benefits:

MRStates offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $72,474.00 to $82,754.00
