Deputy District Attorney I, II, III Salary Information Deputy District Attorney I — $96,699.20 – $116,896 annually Deputy District Attorney II — $113,089.60 – $126,048 annually Deputy District Attorney III — $129,417.60 – $179,233.60 annually Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications subject to appropriate authorization. Responsibilities Initiate criminal proceedings, author and litigate motions, conduct pre‑trial hearings, perform trials, and execute other professional legal work connected with the enforcement of criminal law; Research, interpret and apply statutes, ordinances, court decisions and other legal authorities in the preparation of cases, memoranda and points and authorities; Negotiate and confer with judges and defense attorneys regarding the appropriate disposition of cases; Interview and examine witnesses and enforce the rights of victims consistent with the just pursuit of criminal prosecutions in the interest of the People. Ideal Candidate / Qualifications Minimum qualifications for Deputy District Attorney I, II, III (active membership in the State Bar of California, etc.) Thorough knowledge of legal principles, rules of evidence, and California laws; Experience analyzing legal problems, presenting legal argument; Effective advocate, eager to litigate before judges and juries regularly; Team player able to work cooperatively in a fast‑paced environment with a demanding caseload; Ability to work effectively with law enforcement and the general public; Must have taken the most recently administered California Bar Exam, be fully licensed, active members in good standing with the California State Bar by appointment. Eligibility Requirements Attorney I: Active State Bar membership; no experience required. Attorney II: Active State Bar membership; 12 months experience in civil, governmental, criminal or child support enforcement law. Attorney III: Active State Bar membership; 2 years experience in civil, governmental, criminal or child support enforcement law.
