This role includes emergency, health, and personal care services, therapeutic patient interactions, observation and documentation in an electronic record, and participation in individualized and unit-based programming. The PNA III maintains direct, ongoing therapeutic interactions to promote recovery-oriented progress and may supervise PNA I/II tasks as needed. The PNA III participates in shift reports and recovery team meetings and works under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Duties may change to meet hospital needs and may involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. This employee has access to a limited set of records in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Essential Job Functions (EJFs) Attend work regularly and fulfill assigned shifts, with potential for rotating, extended, or overtime schedules. Implement individualized recovery plans and provide ongoing support to help patients reach goals using person-centered communication. Assist with activities of daily living, hygiene, and eating to promote independence and self-care; accompany patients to appointments as required. Communicate effectively with team members to maintain a positive workplace. Participate in the recovery team or admissions team; provide ongoing verbal and written communication about patients. Use basic computer and documentation skills to report patient care information promptly. Assist licensed nurses in monitoring patients for medication administration and treatment; observe vital signs and perform tasks within competency. Promote safety through environmental awareness and positive patient engagement to minimize risks. Promote and co-facilitate classes and programs; encourage patient participation. Respond to crises using least restrictive interventions and TIPS under RN supervision to ensure health and safety. Perform CPR/Heimlich and AED use per American Heart Association standards. Provide timely patient information to RN regarding medications, disease, or behavioral escalation to enhance safety. Guide PNA I/II in the absence of the PNA IV to maintain smooth patient care operations. Perform other duties as assigned, including disaster response and COOP activation as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of patient care techniques and recovery programs. Knowledge of basic computer skills. Effective interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work with team members. Skills in taking vital signs. Ability to read, write, and understand English to follow instructions. Ability to provide patient care, administer first aid and CPR, and conduct TIPS. Ability to work with others and accept supervision. Ability to train and provide guidance to others. Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications If transporting patients, must have a valid Texas driver license or obtain within 90 days of hire. Out-of-state driving records may be required. CPR certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment. Initial Screening Criteria At least two (2) years of work experience. One year of psychiatric patient experience or direct care required. Additional Information Two years of patient experience or direct care preferred. Applicants must pass background checks, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, LEIE). Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18; Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21. Flexibility in work hours; overtime or extended hours may be required.
