Associate Clerkship Director 3rd Year - Department of Medicine The Department of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking an organized and energetic Associate Clerkship Director. This position involves working with the Statewide Clerkship Director and regional site leaders to facilitate the learning experiences and assessment of medical students during their internal medicine clinical clerkship. Who We Are The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the largest U.S. medical school with over 700 faculty members. Each year, we host 370 medical students in an eight‑week Internal Medicine clerkship across nine campus sites throughout the state. We mentor these students through their 4th year and help them prepare for residency applications, interviews, and match rankings. The associate clerkship directors collaborate with the clerkship director on the development, delivery, and assessment of the clerkship curriculum and overall effectiveness across participating campuses. They assist individual students in achieving their best performance, including knowledge, professionalism, and skill development, as well as career mentoring and advising. The position is located in Indianapolis and is part of the PHASEII core clerkship in Internal Medicine. Responsibilities Assist in delivering the Clerkship Orientation to students starting the rotation (six per academic year). Lead 1–2 clinical reasoning sessions per rotation. Provide ongoing feedback, meeting with students who need additional direct observation or remediation. Work with the education specialist to assess students via the self‑regulated learning assessment to identify those needing medical knowledge remediation (training provided). Review student written assignments to assist with course grading, submitting grades to the director three weeks after each course completion (six times per year). Support faculty development and education regarding RIME assessment and student expectations. Collaborate with hospitalist directors or division leaders at each clinical site to provide feedback to teaching faculty on student evaluations and global performance. Participate in ad‑hoc grade committees. Meetings and Conferences Attend monthly Statewide Clerkship meetings (virtual/Zoom) with site leaders. Attend monthly Clerkship Working Group (CWG) meetings (in person or via Skype/Zoom) when not scheduled for clinical duties. Attend the annual IUSM Clerkship Summit. Attend the annual CDIM national meeting in the spring (department supported). Attend the fall meeting (optional but encouraged for new leaders). Support 25% full‑time equivalent protected effort, supported at an academic rate by the Department of Medicine. Basic Qualifications Evidence of excellent training and a passion to serve as a clinician/educator. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent writing skills with attention to detail. Basic Microsoft Office Suite skills or willingness to learn. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to recognize learning needs and differences. Respectful and supportive treatment of others. Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with a variety of professionals. Ability to plan and prepare comprehensive and accurate instructions for teaching individuals or groups. Demonstrated ability to make independent and autonomous decisions. Ability to prioritize and solve problems. Ability to travel to off‑site locations within the Indianapolis area. POCUS skills or willingness to learn POCUS. Medical degree (MD/DO or equivalent) required; board‑certified in Internal Medicine. Additional Qualifications At least one year of experience in medical education and/or as a clinical preceptor, or completion of a chief resident year in internal medicine. Passion for teaching and learning and interest in curriculum and program development, or learner assessment and evaluation. Evidence of fostering relationships in complex systems, building collaborations and teams, innovative problem‑solving, strategic vision‑setting, and transformational leadership in academic medicine. Desire to assist in building, leading, and executing improvement initiatives within academic medicine. Model inclusive teaching and delivery of specific, timely and actionable feedback to students and peers. Insights on learning theory, clinical psychology, learner wellness, and executive functioning. Experience with MedHub, the student evaluation system.
