Associate Accountant

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking an Associate Accountant to work in Albany, NY. The Associate Accountant will oversee the accounting for deposits to expenditures from numerous revenue sources using QuickBooks and Statewide Financial System (SFS), ensure that costs are routinely captured in the appropriate place and take corrective action when necessary, assist the Budget Services Unit with reporting against numerous federal grants and obtaining recoveries, develop the federal indirect rate and supporting documentation, assist with Fiscal Management’s response in the event of an internal or external audit, assist with internal controls with the Division, including performing random audits of the purchase, contract, revenue deposit, and federal grant functions, and provide advice and assistance to Fiscal Management staff. This is a permanent, office-based, full‑time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, located at 10B Airline Drive in Albany, NY. Opportunities for telecommuting may be available in accordance with the agency’s Telecommuting Program Guidelines. Compensation and Benefits Position is in the PEF Salary Grade (SG) 23. The starting salary is $86,681 per year. Employees receive annual performance evaluations; performance advances may increase salary up to $109,650 per year. Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent service as an Associate Accountant, SG-23; if less than one year, must be reachable on the current eligible list for this location. One year of permanent, competitive service in a title designated for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law (e.g., Auditor 2, SG-23; Internal Auditor 2, SG-23; State Program Examiner 2, SG-23). One year of permanent, contingent‑permanent, or 55 b/c service as a Senior Accountant, G-18 (eligible for non‑competitive promotion). One year of permanent, contingent‑permanent, or 55 b/c service as a Senior Accountant, G-18 (eligible for provisional appointment). Applicants who are re‑appointed provisionally must pass the next scheduled Civil Service examination and must achieve a reachable score before potential permanent appointment. Previous permanent New York State employees who resigned may be reinstated to their former positions or to positions for which they were eligible for transfer or reassignment, if separation occurred within one year and without more than one year of separation from state service.
