Research Assistant II

An integral member of the Lupus and APC Center of Excellence.

• Manages Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) Registry and Repository
• Identify and recruit patients into the SLE Registry
• Identify and recruit patients into the SHIELD (Stopping Hydroxychloroquine in Elderly Lupus Disease) Study
• Processes biological samples
• Recruits and follows lupus pregnancy study patients
• Recruits and follows patients in other studies led by SLE physicians
• Enter clinical and demographic information into computer database
• Collect patient information and blood on a longitudinal basis
• Manages repository of samples
• Gather and ship samples requested by investigators at other clinical sites
• Interact with patients, physicians and study personnel
• Prepare materials for IRB renewal
• Recruit SLE patients into other various lab experiments that are being conducted
• Assist with laboratory studies

Qualifications

• Minimum years of experience required: None
• Skills required: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer service orientation. Proficient use of computers and software.

Physical Working Conditions:

• Standing or sitting in the same location.; may be required to stoop, climb or lift light material (<10 lbs) or equipment. Examples: programmers, receptionists, medical technologists, dishwashers and security guards.

Environmental working conditions:

• Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature and noise. Examples: patient care providers and laboratory technicians.

Hazards:

• OSHA CATEGORY 2: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues and other potentially infectious materials; but employment may require performing unplanned Category 1 tasks.
