Position Overview

Law office of Joel Gonzales, PLLC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join our growing our consumer bankruptcy practice. We are looking for an attorney with experience in bankruptcy law, creditor representation, consumer matters, civil litigation, Social Security Disability or related practice areas. The ideal candidate is organized, client-focused, and comfortable handling hearings, drafting pleadings, negotiating settlements, and managing case files independently.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative legal environment with direct client interaction, courtroom experience, and significant responsibility managing a diverse caseload.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent clients in bankruptcy proceedings, including Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 matters.
• Handle creditor representation in bankruptcy and related litigation matters.
• Draft and review pleadings, motions, objections, discovery responses, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
• Attend court hearings, mediations, status conferences, and negotiations.
• Manage assigned case files from inception through resolution with minimal supervision.
• Conduct legal research and provide strategic analysis on bankruptcy, litigation, and consumer law issues.
• Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, trustees, and court personnel.
• Negotiate settlements and payment arrangements on behalf of clients.
• Ensure compliance with court deadlines, procedural requirements, and firm standards.
• Maintain accurate billing records and case management documentation.
• Provide exceptional client service and maintain strong professional relationships.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license and good standing with the State Bar in Texas
• 2 years of experience in bankruptcy law, creditors’ rights, consumer law, civil litigation, or related practice areas preferred.
• If you do not have experience in bankruptcy then at least have taken a bankruptcy class in law school.
• Experience appearing in court and handling hearings independently.
• Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with legal research tools and case management software preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with bankruptcy court procedures and electronic filing systems.
• Familiarity with FDCPA, consumer protection laws, and collection litigation.
• Trial or contested hearing experience is a plus.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a legal team.
