Phlebotomist

Job Summary:Obtain clinical samples from patients. Route samples to the appropriate testing area. Enter lab test orders into hospital information systems.Job Duties/Responsibilities:Performs venipuncture, capillary, and related procedures, according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, on patients ranging in age from newborns to geriatricsPerforms venipuncture and skin punctures competently and expediently using aseptic techniqueFollows established policy and procedures to collect Blood Cultures that minimize contaminationProperly labels all specimens, immediately after collection, at all timesCorrectly distributes specimens to their respective areas for processing, testing, referral, or storageWorks within the Laboratory Information System to order tests, print labels, and generate completed reportsPerforms Point-Of-Care Testing, as necessaryFollows established policy and procedures for safety and uses personal protective equipment correctlyMaintains the phlebotomy area, carts, and trays in a clean, well-stocked manner.Interacts with co-workers, hospital staff, and medical staff in a courteous, professional mannerPerforms other duties as assignedEducation Experience:HS Graduate or EquivalentYears of Related Experience: < 1 YearLicense/Certificate Required:NoDriver's License Required:YesTravel Requirements: <25%Age Requirement:18+Job Requirements:Uses AIDET or other hospital-approved philosophy to positively interact with patients and visitorsPositively identifies outpatients by checking two patient identifiers and provider orderPositively identifies inpatients by checking two patient identifiers with the patient's wristbandWashes hands, or uses hand sanitizer, before and after each patient contactDisposes used needles in appropriate containers after use. Does not recap needlesPrioritizes work to achieve maximum efficiency and can adjust schedule to account for STAT's, and other prioritiesHas a working knowledge on specimen requirements; tube types and minimum volumesObserves Standard Precautions when collecting or handling patient specimensPreferred Skills:Completion of a Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program Prior experience as a phlebotomist in a clinical setting #J-18808-Ljbffr
