• Around $15 million invested in new automated systems specifically to remove ergonomic hazards and reduce injury risk.

The opportunity

• Direct replacement for a specialist who resigned for family reasons. Urgent need, fast process.
• One of two safety specialists, one per facility, reporting to the EHS Manager.
• Single round of interview with the hiring manager, then a decision. He moves quickly.

What you will own

• Onsite audits (30 to 40% of your time): a daily focused observation walk on a targeted risk area, plus a full-facility walk every week.
• Training and safety messaging (about 30%): you become the training expert for the site. Behavior Based Safety, Confined Space, Incident Case Management, Hazard Recognition.
• Compliance and recordkeeping (the remainder): injury classification, safety paperwork, and supporting external auditors when they visit.
• Coordinate the plant Safety Squad team and report status to the EHS Manager.
• PPE inspections, hazard recognition, and driving continuous improvement in safety monitoring systems.

Qualifications

Required

• Hands-on safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• First Aid / CPR / AED certification.
• OSHA 30 (OSHA 10 considered).
• Working knowledge of state and federal safety regulations, injury classification, and hazard recognition.
• Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship, now or in the future.
• Located in or able to commute to Abilene, TX. Relocation support is limited.

Bonus points

• Bilingual English/Spanish. The floor runs roughly 30% English, 30% Spanish, and 30% African dialects.
• Confined Space training.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations.
• Food or beverage manufacturing background.
• Comfort with Excel and building reports from safety data.

Compensation and benefits

• Pay: $25/hour (roughly $52,000/year). Hourly, non-exempt.
• Schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CT, Monday to Friday, with an on-call component and occasional limited nights and weekends.
• Certifications, fully funded: CPR/AED training up to CPR INSTRUCTOR level, plus a new audiology program that trains you to run hearing tests for the hearing conservation program. Roughly $3,000 in certifications accumulated in this role.
• Tuition reimbursement: up to $1,500/year for career-related education or industry certification.
• Bonuses: quarterly bonuses, plus a longevity bonus paid after one year.
