Senior Electrical Reliability EngineerLewiston is Clearwater Paper's original manufacturing facility and home to nearly 700 dedicated team members who power our site. Together, we make paperboard used in products across the United States, including food packaging, plates, cups and more. Home to the first mill that produced poster board from wood waste, the site currently operates two paper machines, two extruders, two power boilers and two recovery boilers.Located where the Snake and Clearwater rivers meet on the Idaho-Washington border, Lewiston offers an active outdoor lifecycle with easy access to fishing, boating, hiking and camping. The region's milder climate means more rain than snow in the winter and long, sunny days in the summer.Living here means you'll be close to Lewis-Clark State College, University of Idaho, Washington State University, and Walla Walla Community College, as well as strong local K–12 school districts.The Senior Electrical Reliability Engineer is responsible for managing the facilities power distribution systems and associated assets and helping to drive improvement in all areas of the mill.Project & Operations SupportDemonstrate safe work practicesWork as a liaison between Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering teamsWork as a strategic partner in the electrical and instrumentation department primarily in failure prevention and long-term supportProvides technical assistance to production, reliability and quality groups as needed to solve equipment and process-related problems and develops methods to improve processesAssists E&I Maintenance Supervisors and Planners with technical maintenance issuesOptimize manufacturing processes by investigating and eliminating root causes of equipment failuresMOC Champion to review, lead, or assist as neededReliabilityWork with condition monitoring program to reduces RED's list (Vibration, IR, etc.)Work with system analysis tools and vendors to better the system power qualitySupport site power system study and model updates (Relay Protection, Easy Power Model, etc.)Help to establish maintenance best practicesPerform BDA/RCA/RCFA/5-Whys/defect elimination on contributors of yield, utilization, and capacity losses due to failures attributed to equipment, processes, etc.Identify and resolve chronic failures (bad actors) through BDA/RCA/RCFA/5-Whys/defect eliminationEstablish and monitor predictive maintenance program (PM Optimization)Calculate asset life-cycle and costs on bad actorsPerform criticality analysis workWork with other disciplines within the reliability team to update and improve current criticality modelDefine critical spares and BOM's as neededVerify critical spare list is updated annually. Work with engineering to verify BOM's are in place after commissioningConduct asset risk/health analysisCreate and Update Assets within JDE (as needed)Create low voltage PM scope for major outage annuallyTo include MCC, emergency generators, switchgear, UPS systems, transformers, and battery backupsWork with electrical and instrumentation crews to crew better work flow follow upMaintain transformer health assessments and optimizationsDevelop/Update Switching Orders – Standard/Non-Standard LOTOLeadershipAssist in the management of the Predictive and Preventative Maintenance programs including vibration coverage through the mill, plant tank integrity, pressure vessel integrity, and pre-post failure reportsWork as a strategic partner in the electrical and instrumentation department primarily in failure prevention and long-term supportWeekend Duty and overtime as needed – Must call in to weekend status update meetings and provide onsite support as requiredManages capital projects as requiredFacilitate Reliability Steering TeamsKey Competencies & AttributesActively seeks and allocates appropriate decision-making authority or task responsibility to appropriate individuals based on their abilities, availability, motivation, and development needs; considers potential positive and negative impact, business unit priorities, organizational values, and the opportunity to enhance others' knowledge and skillsPossesses strong troubleshooting skillsUnderstands power distribution systems and major componentsUnderstands protection and coordinated trip settingsPrior experience with electrical diagnostics – IR Thermography, partial discharge, power quality analysisPrior experience with medium and low voltage drivesCreates relevant options for addressing problems and opportunities that will achieve desired outcomesSystematically evaluates business opportunities, targeting those with the greatest potential for producing positive business resultsWhat you will needBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required7+ years of experience in engineering, preferably in the paper industry and preferably reliability engineering experienceProficient in Easy Power, Microsoft Office Word and ExcelAutoCAD experience preferredDemonstrated ability to effectively work with vendors, managers, and production employees to achieve goalsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsCapable of managing Process Safety Management programsFamiliar with and have a good working knowledge of construction and repair codes (NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, IEC, NEMA)Knowledgeable with maintenance best practices (vibration analysis, oil analysis, etc.) preferredMust be capable of understanding and troubleshooting complex industrial systems and equipmentUnderstanding of LEAN manufacturing and Continuous Improvement (CI) concepts preferredProfessional Engineering license preferredHigh speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high frequency noises, multiple hours standing, walking on concrete surfacesPersonal Protective Equipment required in mill environmentDirt, noise, odor, and temperature extremesClimbing stairs, ladders, and scaffoldingExposure to hazardous chemicals used in manufacturing processTotal Rewards DetailsWe prioritize an exceptional workplace experience, offering a comprehensive total reward package.
