Calvary Women's Services MissionCalvary Women's Services offers housing, health, education, and employment programs that empower homeless women in Washington, DC, to transform their lives.Job SummaryThe Residential Assistant is an essential member of the operations team. Under the direction of the Program Manager and Assistant Program Manager, the Residential Assistant ensures a safe, respectful environment for women living in Calvary's housing programs. The Residential Assistant provides program and operational support during assigned day, evening, or overnight shift. The Residential Assistant oversees the comings and goings of residents and staff, directs telephone calls & visitors to the appropriate persons, ensures the safety of residents, and assists residents on an ongoing basis.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOperationsManage the facility operations and housing program during scheduled shiftsDirect the work of Volunteer on duty, providing guidance and ensuring accountability; review daily work checklists to ensure all tasks have been completedFollow security measures to ensure accurate resident check in, check out, so staff is aware of who is in the buildingProvide front desk reception and answer incoming calls and handle inquiries occurring during scheduled shift and, as needed, directs calls to appropriate staff for follow-up.Communicate and implement heat advisory and hypothermia policies and proceduresEnsure all residential activities are documented in a timely and thorough manner and ensure that client confidentiality is protectedEnforce house rules and procedures; accurately reporting violations and writing disciplinary notices and incident reports as neededRespond appropriately to emergencies including contacting appropriate staff, law enforcement or fire and medical personnel, as necessary and in a timely manner.Assist in training new residential assistants.Resident Management and AssistanceManage and communicate daily residential program schedule, including making announcements of scheduled activitiesFollow medications protocol to ensure residents have access to their medication in a timely mannerProvide guidance, assistance and support to the residents as neededPerform regular walk-throughs of program space throughout scheduled shiftOversee the completion of any chores during scheduled shiftPerform bed checks and the enforcement of storage policies and log detailsServe pre-made meal in the absence of the Chef or meal volunteersManage resident crisis situations as neededVolunteer ProgramEnsure that volunteers feel welcome and have the resources and support they need to complete their volunteer tasksCommunicate clearly with volunteers, particularly the meal and overnight volunteers, to ensure a successful experience on-siteCoordinate with Sr. Manager of Community Engagement to orient and train new volunteers in program procedures as neededAdministrative and Facility ManagementConduct routine inspection of the entire facility and patio area to ensure the health, welfare and safety of residents and staffPrepare daily updates to logbooks and program documents, including attendance sheets, staff logbook and volunteer logbookManage incoming mail for current residents and those who have exited the program, ensuring secure storage and distributionMaintain a clean and safe work area to include daily organization and cleaning of desktops, floor spaces, and other surfacesTroubleshoot and document basic facilities issuesOther Duties and ResponsibilitiesParticipate in staff meetings and other activities contributing to the effective, efficient operation of Calvary Women's Services, as requested participate in required trainingsProvide clear and consistent communications to residents and staff as neededWork cooperatively with other Calvary staff to promote a successful teamwork environmentRespect professional and personal boundaries when working with residentsAssist with administrative and cleaning tasks as neededAssist with deliveries as needed putting away supply etc.Be available to work other shifts as neededOther duties as assignedShift openings: 3pm-11pm, every other weekendSite: Calvary Transitional, Marion Barry AvenueDC residents are strongly encouraged to apply!RequirementsRequired Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesDemonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situationsFunctional knowledge of Microsoft Office, knowledge of networking concepts would be a plusAbility to assess emergency situations and react accordingly by accessing appropriate medical/social systemsAbility to prioritize tasks with strong organizational skillsProficient written and verbal communication skillsGood problem solving skillsMust be able to read and write EnglishAbility to work in a team oriented environmentEducation and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GEDPrior experience in transitional housing, and working with victims of domestic violence, preferredWork Environment RequirementsReliable transportation to and from work is requiredMove, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance.Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of timeSalary Description $19/hour
