Medical Technologist

Location: Smithfield, Virginia. Salary Range: $30.60 - $42.08 per hour. Actual pay determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs. The Medical Technologist (MT) works under the direction of the supervisor/manager in the area of responsibility and/or the Director of the Laboratory. Performs technical procedures in Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis, and Microbiology according to established protocols and standard operating procedures. Responsibilities Perform technical procedures in Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis, and Microbiology. Maintain quality control and quality assurance guidelines, including accurate performance, review, and documentation. Perform routine maintenance of departmental equipment and procedures, including inventory control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting. Participate in proficiency testing and maintain readiness to meet accreditation standards (CAP, DNV, State, OSHA, AABB, CLIA, etc.). Assist in the training of new and existing personnel and students. Act as lead technologist in the absence of an on‑site supervisor when designated. Provide positive customer service, respond timely to customer needs, and communicate collaboratively with physicians regarding variances in laboratory operations and patient data. Build collaborative professional relationships with a multidisciplinary team to support patient care needs. Use appropriate protective equipment, body mechanics, and follow safety guidelines and procedures. May perform specimen collection, specimen processing, and phlebotomy as applicable. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Lab Technology / Clinical Lab Science or related field (Required). Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience (Preferred). Licenses and Certifications: Medical Technologist (MT) – ASCP Board of Certification (BOC); Clinical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Technologist (ASCP or AMT); MLS – American Medical Technologists (AMT) (ASCP or AMT) upon hire (Required). #J-18808-Ljbffr
