Research Assistant, Division of Addiction Psychiatry Boston, MA Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Full-time Day shift Job Description: Our group has several focuses including: 1) investigating the therapeutic use of cannabis and cannabinoids like CBD, 2) studying the risks and benefits of cannabis, and 3) improving the treatment of substance use disorders. Opportunities are also available for the research assistants to be involved in the observation of clinical care. Multiple publication opportunities may also be possible, as well as opportunities to present at conferences around the country. The ideal candidate is comfortable meeting with and working with patients, excited to draft scientific papers, and able to work in‑person at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. Essential Responsibilities: Conduct routine tests following established procedures, which may include assays, DNA sequencing, tissue culture, protein purification, Southern blotting, PCR analysis, electrophoresis, chromatography. Research and collect basic study data through monitoring devices and maintain daily logs of methodologies and test results. With supervision, use databases to summarize data and interpret results using descriptive statistics and basic hypothesis testing. Perform literature searches and library investigations related to the research and/or as assigned. Show flexibility in performing principal duties and responsibilities as research projects evolve. Attend Medical Center lectures regarding all safety requirements/conditions. Attend courses, lectures, and conferences to further knowledge of research. Demonstrate routine laboratory tasks to students and other research personnel. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related scientific field. 0‑1 years related work experience. Experience with computer systems, including web‑based applications and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access). Competencies: Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are based on specific instructions, standard practices and established procedures with little or no supervision. Problem Solving: Ability to address routine problems, identify opportunities for process improvements. Independence of Action: Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided; work is monitored by supervisor/manager. Written Communications: Ability to read and write in English, understand basic safety instructions, and communicate effectively with patients, families and other staff. Oral Communications: Ability to understand spoken English and communicate effectively in basic English with patients, families and staff. Knowledge: Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures applicable to routine situations. Teamwork: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and external contacts. Customer Service: Positive attitude and timely, respectful responses to requests. Physical Nature of the Job: Light work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some sedentary elements, but the employee will be required to stand for periods or move throughout the hospital campus.
