Location: New York with travel required

Salary: $130,000.00-$160,000.00 annually, based on experience

Reports to: Senior Vice President, Operations

Employment Type: Full-Time

Outworx is seeking an experienced Fleet Director to lead the strategic and day-to-day management of our fleet operations.

This position is responsible for fleet reliability, maintenance, safety, compliance, utilization, financial performance, vendor management, and long-term asset planning. The Fleet Director will partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, Finance, Safety, Procurement, and Executive Leadership to ensure the fleet is safe, reliable, available, and cost-effective.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on fleet leader with experience managing large or complex vehicle and heavy-equipment fleets, maintenance operations, teams, budgets, vendors, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Operations & Leadership

• Lead fleet strategy and day-to-day fleet operations.

• Oversee fleet availability, utilization, reliability, and operational readiness.

• Lead and develop fleet and maintenance teams while establishing clear performance and accountability standards.

• Partner with Operations to ensure fleet capacity supports current and future business needs.

• Develop fleet replacement, acquisition, and lifecycle plans.

Maintenance & Asset Management

• Direct preventive and corrective maintenance programs.

• Ensure vehicles and equipment are properly maintained, inspected, and available for service.

• Monitor equipment condition, downtime, utilization, and maintenance requirements.

• Oversee the asset lifecycle from acquisition through replacement and disposal.

• Identify opportunities to improve fleet reliability and reduce downtime.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and industry regulations.

• Maintain fleet safety policies, procedures, inspections, and compliance programs.

• Monitor safety and incident metrics and implement corrective actions.

• Investigate fleet-related incidents and operational deficiencies.

Financial & Vendor Management

• Develop and manage fleet operating and capital budgets.

• Monitor maintenance, fuel, parts, leasing, and other fleet-related expenses.

• Analyze total cost of ownership and identify cost-saving opportunities.

• Manage relationships and contracts with OEMs, maintenance providers, suppliers, and other vendors.

• Evaluate vendor performance and negotiate service agreements as appropriate.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Establish and monitor key fleet performance metrics, including:

o Fleet availability and reliability

o Preventive maintenance compliance

o Maintenance cost

o Downtime

o Asset utilization

o Fuel efficiency

o Safety performance

• Use fleet management systems and data to identify trends and improve performance.

• Lead process improvements and fleet technology initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:

• 10+ years of progressive fleet, maintenance, transportation, heavy equipment, or related operations experience.

• 5+ years of leadership/management experience.

• Experience managing a large or complex fleet and maintenance operation.

• Experience managing operating and capital budgets.

• Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance, asset lifecycle management, and regulatory compliance.

• Experience managing vendors, contractors, and service providers.

• Strong analytical, financial, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Proficiency with fleet management and maintenance systems and Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Transportation, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field.

• Experience with heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, construction, municipal, transportation, or snow-removal fleets.

• Experience leading fleet acquisition and replacement programs.

• Experience managing geographically dispersed fleet operations.
