Job Title: Lay Up and Press Operator – Weekday AM and Weekday PM Job Description

The Lay Up and Press Operator is responsible for preparing, laying up, and pressing panels used in interior and exterior aircraft parts within a clean manufacturing environment. This role involves operating production machinery and tools, handling materials, and ensuring panels are accurately trimmed and prepared to meet aerospace quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Verify and withdraw materials according to production requirements and work instructions.
  • Cut and kit materials to specified dimensions and layouts for panel production.
  • Lay up materials in the correct sequence and orientation to create panels for aircraft interiors and exteriors.
  • Load and unload panels and materials into and out of the press in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operate press equipment to form panels, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Operate saws to cut panels and materials to required sizes and shapes.
  • Trim panels using CNC equipment to achieve precise dimensions and finishes.
  • Perform general labor tasks to support production, including cleaning, organizing, and material handling.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively during assembly and production activities.
  • Operate production and manufacturing machinery, including machine operating tasks as assigned.
  • Conduct basic inspection of panels and materials to ensure they meet quality and specification requirements.
  • Assist with assembly-related tasks associated with panel preparation and finishing.
  • Operate forklifts or other material handling equipment, if trained and authorized, to move materials and products.
  • Complete all required production paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Actively participate in operational improvement activities, including process improvements and efficiency initiatives.
  • Cross-train in or transfer to other departments as needed to support production demands.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in general labor within a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools for cutting, assembly, and material preparation.
  • Competence in machine operating tasks, including basic setup, operation, and monitoring of production equipment.
  • Familiarity with inspection processes to verify product quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Ability to perform assembly tasks related to panel preparation and finishing.
  • Capability to operate a forklift or similar material handling equipment, if required.
  • Strong attention to detail when cutting, kitting, laying up, and trimming materials.
  • Ability to accurately complete production paperwork and follow documented procedures.
  • Willingness and ability to actively participate in operational improvement initiatives.
  • Flexibility to cross-train and work in different departments as production needs change.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in aerospace, manufacturing, or production environments is beneficial.
  • Comfort working with and around chemical processes in a controlled manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to learn and operate CNC equipment for trimming and finishing panels.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing materials, kitting, and workflow.
  • Reliability and consistency in meeting production schedules and quality standards.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support colleagues and collaborate on process improvements.

Work Environment

This role is based in a clean manufacturing facility where panels for aircraft interiors and exteriors are produced. The environment includes exposure to chemicals in the air, so employees should be comfortable working in a controlled industrial setting with appropriate safety measures. Work is performed on production floors using hand and power tools, presses, saws, CNC equipment, and material handling devices such as forklifts. The position is available on weekday AM and weekday PM shifts, providing structured hours in a professional manufacturing environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Newport, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
