Pharmacy Manager

Job Description Summary The Pharmacy Manager is a licensed professional responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and providing safe and appropriate pharmacy services to Option Care patients in accordance with the policies, procedures, and professional standards. Key responsibilities include coordinating patient services with nursing, managing budgets, purchasing, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The role supports the Operations Director in meeting operational and financial goals. Job Responsibilities Determine suitability of patients for home care. Supervise, monitor, and evaluate quality and effectiveness of patient care provided by pharmacy staff. Manage daily activities related to operations and communications. Direct activities of the pharmacy department. Schedule work activities of pharmacy staff so that pharmaceutical‑care needs of patients are met. Develop and mentor staff through onboarding, training, performance management, and open communication. Oversee product purchasing, inventory, budget, and equipment management. Assist General Manager in preparing, securing approval for, and implementing operating and expenditure budgets for the department. Evaluate and oversee purchase, management, and security of all medications, pumps, and medical supplies in accordance with policies. Provide support to sales professionals and general manager by speaking knowledgeably about available services. Facilitate education regarding available services to managed‑care organizations and other accounts. Act as Office Administrator with the Director of Nursing or Nurse Manager in the absence of the General Manager. Collect and organize patient‑specific information needed to prevent, detect, and resolve medication‑related problems and make appropriate medication therapy recommendations. Monitor clinical staff’s documentation on pharmacy care plans for home‑care patients. Evaluate competency in pharmacokinetic principles and formulas. Ensure medications are prepared and dispensed following policies and procedures. Maintain accurate equipment calibration and ensure medications are appropriately concentrated, stable, and stored. Coordinate and participate in on‑call responsibilities of the pharmacy department. Ensure reliable pharmacy coverage for on‑call activities. Provide reliable pharmacy services when scheduled to be on‑call. Manage use of investigational drug products according to regulations. Comply with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements. Supervisory Responsibilities Hiring, recommending/approving promotions and pay increases, scheduling, performance reviews, discipline, etc. Basic Education and Experience Requirements Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy. Current, active Pharmacy license. At least 5 to 7 years of experience in a clean room or infusion pharmacy setting OR 3 years of experience and one of the following: knowledge of non‑sterile compounding and MTM, completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Residency Program, or equivalent experience. At least 3 years of experience managing people (hiring, developing, motivating, directing). At least 2 years of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and capital budgets OR completion of an ASHP accredited Residency Program. Basic Qualifications & Interests Experience compounding sterile products and managing patient care. Experience overseeing purchasing and inventory of all pharmaceutical substances and supplies. Access to reliable transportation for home visits (valid driver’s license and proof of insurance if personal vehicle). Active membership in related state or national clinical, pharmaceutical, or home health care organization. Experience identifying operational issues and implementing strategies to resolve problems. Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers, meeting quality standards and evaluating customer satisfaction. Basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Preferred Qualifications & Interests Post‑graduate residency program in clinical pharmacy services. Board certification in Nutrition Support Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, or other clinical pharmacy practice area. Experience managing inventory and logistics. At least 5 years of experience compounding sterile products and managing complex infusion patients. At least 3 years of experience overseeing purchasing and inventory of all pharmaceutical and related substances and supplies. Travel Requirements Willing to travel up to 5% of the time for business purposes, within and out of state. Salary Pay Range: $103,504.79–$172,507.98 (determined by education, experience, skills, and market data).
