Role Description The Survey Crew Chief is a full-time, on-site role based in the Boulder Metropolitan Area. This position leads field survey crews, plans daily field activities, and ensures that topographic, boundary, ALTA, and construction-related surveys are completed accurately and on schedule. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining survey equipment, verifying field measurements, keeping detailed field notes, and coordinating with office staff on project requirements and deliverables. The Survey Crew Chief interprets project plans, communicates with project managers and clients as needed, and upholds safety and quality standards in all field operations. This role also supports training and mentoring of crew members to ensure consistent, high-quality field performance. Qualifications Strong proficiency in land surveying practices, including Boundary Surveys and ALTA Surveys. Experience conducting Topographic Surveys and related site measurements for design and construction projects. Hands‑on skills operating Total Station and associated field survey instruments and data collectors. Knowledge of construction staking, mapping, and basic engineering concepts relevant to surveying. Ability to lead and supervise field crews, manage daily schedules, and coordinate with project teams. Competence in reading and interpreting survey plats, engineering plans, legal descriptions, and project specifications. Familiarity with survey‑related software, GPS/GNSS technology, and digital data management is preferred. Valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions. Previous experience as a Survey Crew Chief or senior survey technician; professional licensure or progress toward licensure (PLS) is a plus. Experience with residential foundation layout, Land Survey Plat (LSP) with topography, and Improvement Survey Plat (ISP) with topography. Five years' experience.
