Job Title Coffee Shop Department Manager Job Description Responsible for setting department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability. Coordinates delivery of the freshest and best quality product at a competitive retail price while maintaining a positive company image through courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Maintain a positive attitude and a friendly atmosphere through teamwork and flexibility. Encourage employees to greet and speak to customers; provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service. Set department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and profitability. Smiles and greets customers, attempting to learn and use their names whenever possible. Assist customers with locating products, securing items out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, taking note of suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks that enhance the shopping experience. Answer telephone calls promptly and provide friendly, helpful service, including taking product orders. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate all department employees. Determine department goals with the store director; develop the weekly work schedule and daily work plan. Inspect signage and displays for quality and order product for replenishment. Handle and resolve customer issues; communicate with employees regarding sales and ideas. Set retail pricing and ensure correct pricing. Extend invoices, post invoices, and oversee department bookkeeping procedures. Analyze weekly and monthly sales and trends, compare to actuals, prepare projections, and write ads. Conduct inventory of the department. Plan displays, promotions, and determine pre‑orders. Ensure proper temperatures and storage procedures are maintained to guarantee freshness and control shrink. Understand and troubleshoot equipment and ensure maintenance is performed. Maintain store appearance and equipment. Complete Advanced Store Training. Maintain consistent speed of service by ensuring adequate staffing. Adhere to personal hygiene and dress guidelines, company policies, and store guidelines. Report to work on time and according to schedule. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Ensure pricing is competitive in the market area. Attend meetings, seminars, and participate in continuing education. Fill displays and work in the sales area. Unload trucks, check delivered merchandise, and place products in appropriate storage. Perform departmental duties as needed and assist in other store areas as required. Carry out special projects and other job‑related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics Ability to solve practical problems involving variable conditions. Arithmetic calculations with fractions, decimals, and percentages. Compose original correspondence, interpret written instructions, interview applicants, and follow technical manuals. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent; on‑the‑job training and sanitation courses. Over one year of related supervisory work experience. Supervisory Responsibilities Instruct, assign, review, and plan the work of subordinates. Maintain standards, coordinate activities, allocate personnel, and address employee problems. Choose new employees and recommend promotions or disciplinary actions. Approve employee discipline and recommend transfers, discharges, or salary increases. Physical Requirements Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly. Visual requirements include adequate vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction. Perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, and repetitive motions. Working Conditions Exposure to temperature extremes, dampness, and equipment movement hazards such as pallet jacks. Risk of electrical shock and exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. Fast‑paced work environment. Equipment Used Coffee shop equipment: cash register, can opener, thermometers, knives, dishwasher, ice machine, scales, pop machine, calculator, computer, RPM, steamer, fax, copier, telephone. Financial Responsibility Responsible for company assets, including equipment and merchandise. Contacts Daily contact with customers, employees, suppliers/vendors, and the general public; occasional contact with regulatory agencies for inspections. Confidentiality Access to confidential information such as employee compensation, monthly results, quarterly inventory reports, sales and profit sheets, and warehouse pricing.
