CustodianThe custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors within the school building and grounds. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that the school is a healthy and welcoming place for learning.Job ResponsibilitiesClean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, gymnasium, and other school spaces daily.Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust as needed to maintain a neat environment.Empty trash and recycling receptacles and ensure proper disposal.Set up and break down furniture and equipment for school events, meetings, and activities.Maintain safe conditions by promptly addressing spills, hazards, and weather-related concerns such as snow/ice removal wet floors.Ensure the buildings are kept locked and secured at all times.Assist with delivery and storage of supplies, furniture, and equipment.Monitor and replenish cleaning and restroom supplies as needed.Follow all health, safety, and sanitation procedures, including proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals.Provide winter clean up and snow removal from walkways and steps.Promote good citizenship through actions as a role model.Conduct themselves according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school.Assume other responsibilities assigned by supervisor and/or school administrator.Abide by the CCS Employee Handbook, CCS policies and procedures, and all current PA Public School expectations.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required.Prior custodial or maintenance experience in a school or similar setting preferred.Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.Reliability, punctuality, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.Proficiency with basic computer operations.Required clearances include PA Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Fingerprint Clearance, all dated within one year of receipt.Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School.Work Environment and Physical DemandsAbility to sit and stand for extended periods of time.Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.Ability to lift up to 150 pounds utilizing appropriate equipment.Exposure to cleaning chemicals, noise, and occasional contact with bodily fluids (using proper protective equipment).Must be able to use both hands for repetitive motions.Some bending and twisting of the body are required.Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.Noise level in the work environment is usually mild to moderate depending on the specific site.
