Senior Accountant (CAS)

Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. (Councilor), an accounting and business advisory firm that serves clients throughout Washington, DC, Baltimore, and the Mid-Atlantic region, is currently seeking a dedicated client accounting and advisory services professional with at least two years of public accounting experience to help our clients in the non-profit and other industries. Essential FunctionsBe responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of monthly financial statements, including account analysis, financial reporting, and variance analysisAssist with client accounts payable and accounts receivable activitiesMaintain general accounting systems to provide records of assets, liabilities, and other financial transactionsResearch, analyze, and document general accounting mattersConduct general ledger operations, including processing, monitoring, and tracking general ledger transactions as well as preparing and posting journal entriesProcess payroll and related monthly, quarterly, and annual returnsPrepare basic tax returns (including 990's)Perform other accounting and tax duties as needed in engagements and as assigned by supervisory personnelContribute to team effort to achieve optimal customer satisfactionWork with varying levels of personnel and management, both inside and outside the accounting team, to ensure appropriate analysis of issues and conclusion of accounting mattersSupport monitoring and validation efforts for internal controls and adherence to US GAAPProvide hands-on support for varying projectsOther FunctionsPossess time management and organizational skillsDemonstrate industry expertiseAssist with training of other CAAS personnelDevelop an entrepreneurial approach to client service and develop good working relationships with client personnelMaintain contacts with peers, develop a network of business contacts, and cultivate referralsPerform other duties as assignedJob QualificationsAt least two years of recent Client Accounting and Advisory experience or at least four years of experience as an accountant with experience in audits, financial reports, and moderate to complex month end closingsStrong knowledge of overall financial and internal controls to support a GAAP compliant environmentBachelor's degree in accounting or another related programAdvanced degree and/or CPA certification is strongly desiredProficiency in the use of computers and accounting software programs (QuickBooks Online, CCH Suite, etc.) OR be a quick learner of new softwareAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft OfficeAttention to detail and accuracyAnalytical skillsAbility to multitask and prioritize workExcellent verbal and written communication skillsCustomer service orientedMust be a team player and willing to work in a dynamic environment About CouncilorAt Councilor, it is our goal to hire talented, energetic people who are enthusiastic about what they do.
