Job Title: Machine Operator Job Description

This role involves operating CNC laser and CNC press brake equipment to perform precise cutting and welding operations in a manufacturing environment. The Machine Operator sets up machines, selects appropriate programs and fixtures, performs basic program edits, and conducts dimensional inspections to ensure high-quality production. The position also requires routine maintenance of equipment and flexibility to support different production areas as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Operate CNC laser and CNC press brake machines to perform cutting and welding operations according to production requirements.
  • Select and load proper cutting and welding programs and install appropriate fixtures for each job.
  • Establish proper stop locations and adjust the laser beam focal point to achieve accurate and consistent results.
  • Perform machine set-ups for cutting and welding operations, including configuring tooling and verifying parameters.
  • Conduct dimensional inspections of parts to confirm they meet specifications and quality standards.
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department manager or appropriate personnel.
  • Perform general maintenance on CNC laser and press brake equipment as required to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Operate additional shop equipment such as drill presses as needed to support production.
  • Work in different production areas as required to meet changing operational needs and production schedules.
  • Follow all safety procedures, work instructions, and quality guidelines while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–5 years of experience operating a CNC laser.
  • Ability to set up CNC laser machines, including selecting programs, fixtures, and establishing proper stop locations.
  • Capability to perform basic program edits on CNC equipment.
  • Experience operating a CNC press brake.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents written in English, including work instructions and technical information.
  • Experience with laser and press brake operation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting as required by the role.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to perform general maintenance on production equipment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform accurate dimensional inspections.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience operating drill presses or similar shop equipment.
  • Previous experience working in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify and report defective materials or questionable conditions.
  • Ability to adapt to different production areas and tasks based on operational needs.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing facility with concrete flooring and a non-climate-controlled environment, which may involve exposure to varying temperatures throughout the year. You will work around CNC lasers, press brakes, drill presses, and other production equipment, following established safety procedures. The role may require periods of standing, walking, and heavy lifting, as well as working in different production areas depending on operational needs. Appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment are expected to ensure safety and comfort on the production floor.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX 77051.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $25.00/hr.
