Incumbent’s primary function is to oversee the print buying processes as well as purchases from 3rd party vendors to facilitate the production of Our Sunday Visitor’s products and promotional material. Incumbent has an indirect input into the scheduling and coordination of the internal workflow at Our Sunday Visitor.

Essential Job Functions (*=Non-essential tasks):

• Specify, quote, select, coordinate and oversee all aspects of the production for products, promotions and office supplies for the Publishing Division.
• Oversee all production aspects for Our Sunday Visitor Curriculum Division products.
• Monitor and review all production processes for opportunities to increase efficiency and/or cost savings
• Monitor new production and technological advancements in the marketplace for publishing applications
• Coordinate with OSV’s Postal Manager to ensure postal compliance, deliverability of product and maximum postage savings
• Consult and advise marketing and editorial departments in developing new products
• Track and monitor production costs for all new publishing products
• Provide production budgets and scheduling for all new products
• Review all jobs at design, , print/duplication, and finishing stages for quality and reproducibility
• Develop and maintain alternative plans for production of all products in case of emergency (plant closings, natural disasters, etc.)
• maintain relationships with multiple vendors capable of producing each job
• Quote each new job with a minimum of three qualified vendors for ongoing or repeat jobs, repeat the competitive quoting process at least once a year
• Coordinate and facilitate the actual print publishing process while working with both editors, authors, and designers inside Our Sunday Visitor and outside vendors that will handle the printing
• Incumbent may be required to travel numerous times per year outside of Our Sunday Visitor
• Other job duties as needed

Requirements:

Experience:

• Advanced overall knowledge of printing processes is required
• Must have previous experience working with different shipping companies and have an in depth knowledge of policies and procedures with different shipping companies
• Incumbent should have experience in the customer service, estimating field, or similar (5+ years)
• Incumbent must have a firm grasp on publishing production processes

Education:

• Coursework in Printing Processes would be beneficial to the incumbent

Skills and Abilities:

• Incumbent must be able to see patterns and trends in publishing and printing processes
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• The ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with teams of editors, designers, and a multitude of other individuals
• Must maintain confidentiality; some pre-release content not for public consumption such as new products and redesigned publications could be mishandled. Externally our reputation or competitive position could be compromised
• Skills with human relations are important as the incumbent may work closely with various department heads and other personnel frequently
• Organizational skills
• Time management skills are important to stay on schedule in this area

Working Environment:

• Incumbent will work in a hybrid office/remote environment with 3 days on-site at OSV and two days at a home office.
• Incumbent will be expected to visit the production floor to evaluate the printing processes

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Incumbent will work directly and indirectly with a wide range of employees both inside and outside Our Sunday Visitor curriculum and publishing divisions
