Grounds Supervisor

Bellevue College's Building and Grounds Supervisor installs and maintains hardscapes and landscapes on Bellevue College campus to ensure a safe and beautiful environment for the students, visitors, and staff. The position reports to the Grounds Manager within the Campus Operations Division of Administrative Services. The position is a supervisory role with the responsibility for managing and leading the Grounds Department within Campus Operations.

Position Salary Range: $62,832/year - $84,480/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

Bellevue College Grounds Crew maintains landscapes and hardscapes at both Main and North Campus. The Grounds Crew supports the College's mission and goals by carrying an awareness throughout their work with regards to safety, accessibility, exclusivity and sustainability. The Grounds Crew is a large contributor to ensuring the College campus is free of litter and debris, is accessible to pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and ensuring public gathering spaces are well kept and available to the College community. In addition to maintaining an exceptional campus aesthetic the Grounds Crew is also responsible for renovating landscapes to better compliment the native environment and make them more sustainable in maintenance and future development.

By collaborating with various groups on campus the Grounds Crew strives to involve multiple perspectives of those on campus and allow for group and interactive projects related to campus grounds; thus, incorporating all the knowledge and experience within the college community to ensure work being done is both transparent and in alignment with the College's goals.

Administrative Work

• Develop departmental procedures and policies, monitor budget, prepare reports and maintain records as needed.

• Interview, hire, train, onboard new staff, review reclassification and recommend discipline as needed.

• Develop specifications for equipment purchases or services contracted; order supply, equipment and materials required by grounds and custodial departments.

• Attend regular campus operations meetings to discuss updates on work performed as part of the comprehensive grounds maintenance program and contribute to discussions involving overlapping campus landscape use needs.

• Work closely with the Grounds Manager and Campus Operations staff on building projects, overseeing contractor coordination, preparing and submitting special project requests, estimating costs for maintenance and minor renovations, assisting in quote procurement, and inspecting campus facilities to evaluate safety, maintenance needs, and necessary corrective actions.

• Participate in discussions with landscape architectures and consultants on new landscapes installations and adjustments in landscape due to capital projects.

• Assist with building repairs as needed and coordinates repairs with appropriate staff.

• Serve as the secondary liaison for grounds and outdoor infrastructure-related capital and maintenance projects, coordinating with vendors, contractors and regulatory agencies.

Event Assistance and Traffic Control

• Assist with the college sponsored events, participation in department events (Hayride wreath making event and other events).

• Assist in traffic control for planned and unplanned events, various tasks as needed to aid in normal campus operations.

Other

• Perform Other Duties as Assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience or training involving grounds maintenance, plant care, or equivalent education and/or experience.

• One (1) year of supervisory experience working in property or grounds maintenance.

• Valid Washington Motor vehicle operator's license and 2 years of driving experience.

• Possess Washing State Department of Agriculture certification for pesticide application or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.

• Experience operating commercial lawn mowers, string trimmers, chainsaws, tractors, and other equipment relevant in this field.

• Demonstrated ability to work outside in all weather conditions.

• Demonstrated physical ability to do the required work (i.e. lift/push/or pull at a minimum 50lbs), and must be able to bend, kneel, and or crouch repeatedly.

• Effective communication, problem-solving and time management skills with the ability to work both independently and in group settings, whether small or large.

• Demonstrated experience working with diverse colleagues and/or students in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook to manage communication, documentation, data analysis, and work requests.
