9th - 12th Grade Licensed Cosmetology Teacher Job Description Report to: Campus Principal Primary Purpose: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society, and prepare them for the Texas Cosmetology Exam. Qualifications Education/Certification Valid Texas teaching certificate in Career and Technology Texas Cosmetology Instructors License Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of cosmetology skills including hair, skin, and nail technology General knowledge of curriculum and instruction of CTE cosmetology Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Ability to supervise field experiences for students Ability to supervise students who are working with community clients Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of laws and regulations for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Experience At least three years of experience working as a cosmetologist Major Responsibilities Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of current TEKS and provide written evidence of preparation. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and regulatory agencies. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment reflecting student needs. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with IEPs. Work with clients in the cosmetology lab. Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods as per district requirements. Use technology to strengthen teaching and learning processes. Student Growth and Development Plan and conduct leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities at local, regional, and state levels. Help students learn employability skills and analyze/ improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for assigned extracurricular activities. Serve as a positive role model for students. Support the mission of the school district. Classroom Management and Organization Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student physical, social, and emotional development. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook. Maintain a sanitary work environment per Texas Department of Rules and Regulations. Accompany and supervise students at all off-campus activities, including contests, workshops, and field trips. Oversee the maintenance of facilities and equipment, including the cosmetology lab and classroom. Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Plan and supervise teacher aide and volunteer assignments. Prepare monthly hourly reports for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Order supplies and manage budget as needed. Communication Communicate with parents, students, counselors, principals, and teachers through conferences and updates. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Maintain license through required continuing education. Other Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents. Mental and Physical Demands Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district, regional, and statewide travel; extended and irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
