Assistant Store Manager

In this leadership role, you'll support the Store Manager in overseeing daily retail operations, staff supervision, production, sales performance, customer service, safety compliance, and store presentation. This position is ideal for candidates with retail leadership experience who enjoy developing teams, driving store performance, and making a positive impact in their community. Through your work, you'll help generate critical funding that supports The Salvation Army's life-changing programs and services. What You'll Do Leadership & Team Development Assist with training, coaching, and supervising store staff Provide leadership and guidance during daily operations Support employee development and promote a positive team culture Assist with staffing, scheduling, and operational planning Help ensure policies and procedures are consistently followed Store Operations & Sales Support the implementation of strategies to achieve production and sales goals Assist in managing day-to-day store operations Monitor store performance and identify opportunities for improvement Help maintain appropriate inventory flow and merchandise availability Support loss prevention efforts and product control procedures to minimize shrinkage Store Appearance & Safety Ensure the store is clean, organized, safe, and customer-ready Assist in maintaining attractive merchandising and displays Support compliance with OSHA regulations and Salvation Army safety policies Monitor facility conditions and communicate maintenance needs Customer Experience & Community Relations Deliver exceptional customer service and create a positive shopping environment Support customer retention and community engagement initiatives Address customer concerns professionally and effectively Represent The Salvation Army positively in the community Support and uphold The Salvation Army's mission and values Administrative Responsibilities Assist with banking procedures and daily financial processes Maintain operational records and required documentation Provide information for employee evaluations and corrective actions Communicate regularly with the Store Manager regarding store operations Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned Training Provided Paid training on store operations, register procedures, and management responsibilities Leadership development and coaching from experienced retail managers Ongoing support and professional growth opportunities Training on safety standards, customer service, and operational excellence Why Join Us? Additional Information Qualifications Required High School Diploma or equivalent 2 years retail experience (thrift experience a plus) Valid Driver's License Basic computer proficiency including POS systems Ability to pass pre-employment background check Physical Requirements Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly Occasional lifting up to 100 pounds Capability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch as needed Clear vision (close and distance) with ability to adjust focus Schedule Requirements Flexibility to work early shifts, late shifts, and most weekends Available for occasional travel to various locations for work or training Store environment with quiet to moderate noise level May experience temperature fluctuations based on weather The Salvation Army is an equal opportunity employer.
