Job Summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Manufacturing Technician 2 to support its Spacecraft Components organization in Goleta, California. The role supports the fabrication, assembly, testing, rework, and quality inspection of mechanical components, subassemblies, and final assemblies used in spacecraft systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and assemble mechanical components and larger assemblies.
  • Set up and test prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions.
  • Perform manufacturing, rework, calibration, and quality-testing activities.
  • Work with engineers on manufacturing setup, testing, and process improvements.
  • Collect and evaluate operating data and make adjustments to products, instruments, or equipment.
  • Assist in developing methods and procedures to control or modify manufacturing processes.
  • Handle and manage fragile composite materials.
  • Track adhesive usage, traceability, pot life, and out-time requirements.
  • Read and interpret manufacturing and engineering drawings and shop planning.
  • Report production and test data and communicate with other departments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing work area.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • High school diploma/GED plus at least 2 years of additional education and/or related experience.
  • Demonstrated mechanical ability.
  • Ability to read and follow engineering drawings, schematics, and written instructions.
  • Familiarity with hand tools and proper tool-safety techniques.
  • Understanding of basic torque concepts.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and different shifts as required.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and detail-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a composites or manufacturing environment.
  • Aerospace, spacecraft, or satellite manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with DC power supplies, digital multimeters, and source meters.
  • Knowledge of basic shop arithmetic.
  • Familiarity with ISO requirements and compliance standards.
  • Experience with cranes, rigging, forklifts, or similar manufacturing equipment.
  • J-Standard soldering certification.
