Instrumentation Technician

Position Summary

Technical Professionals Group (TPG) is seeking a highly motivated Instrumentation Technician to support vehicle testing, prototype development, and data acquisition activities within the automotive and mobility industry. The Instrumentation Technician will be responsible for building cables, running wires, troubleshooting, soldering, and assisting with installation of instrumentation. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers and cross-functional teams to support advanced vehicle development programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Build cables
• Soldering
• Ability to read schematics/prints
• Create, edit, and close work orders to document vehicle preparation, test, and maintenance activities.
• Maintain instrumentation inventory and check-in/out assets in online instrumentation database
• Perform instrumentation shakedowns/functionality checks prior to tests
• Troubleshoot vehicle and equipment issues by referencing diagnostic manuals and/or using diagnostic software
• Participate in root cause analysis and troubleshoot issues with instrumentation and/or test vehicles.
• Coordinate with validation team members and other groups within organization to complete projects.
• Ability to perform minor repairs/modifications to vehicles as needed to maintain test/project timelines

Education and Experience

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Electrical knowledge (automtotive)
• One to three (3) years of experience in vehicle mechanics, diagnostics
• Ability to read schematics/prints

Preferred:

• Three to five (3-5) years of experience supporting instrumentation installation.
• Automotive repair/diagnostics
• Familiarity with commercial vehicles and components a plus

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in shop and vehicle environments for extended periods.
• Ability to work inside vehicles, under vehicles, and around test equipment.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends, based on project requirements.
