Trade Specialist - Structural

Job Description Under direct supervision, the incumbent performs skilled structural/carpentry duties including repairs and installations of doors, hardware, drywall, flooring, and framing. The role includes troubleshooting and maintaining roofing systems, completing work orders, communicating proactively with district staff, monitoring inventory of supplies and equipment, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws, codes, and regulations. Essential Functions Repair and maintain all types of roofs, including foam, single‑ply membrane, standing seam, asphalt, and fiberglass shingle. Install, maintain, and repair flashings, expansion joints, sheet‑metal counter flashings, fascia, gutters and downspouts, roof penetrations for conduits, pipes, vents, and equipment curbs. Inspect roofs on all district facilities to locate and correct leaks. Operate and understand the use of foam pack, power washer, table saws, circular saw, radial arm saw, tile saw, and carpet tools; maintain tools and equipment in safe working conditions. Record and submit all required job task information, including materials, labor hours, and actions taken, on the district work order system. Review assigned tasks to ensure awareness of all outstanding work orders. Communicate with district personnel and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns. Collaborate with other maintenance crews to ensure the district’s educational environment is not disrupted. Monitor and secure district tools, equipment, and vehicles. Monitor and replenish shop and truck stock and inventory items; organize and keep stock up to date. Ensure compliance with district policies, Arizona State School Facilities Board preventive maintenance requirements, and federal, state, and building health and safety codes. Spot‑check contractor work when directed and update supervisors on project status. Perform other duties as required. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired. Three to five years of structural/roofing experience. Valid Arizona Department of Transportation driver’s license. Active Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Preferred Qualifications Five years of experience installing and repairing all types of roofing. Completion of trade school or equivalent. Five years of commercial structural/carpentry experience. Commercial driver’s license. Knowledge and Skills Required Principles and practices of roofing and carpentry trades. Federal and state building, health, and safety codes. Record‑keeping techniques. Basic mathematics. Reading and understanding technical manuals. Arizona State School Facilities Board requirements. Operation of hand and power tools. Use of relevant computer software. Effective communication with supervisors, staff, students, and others. Physical Requirements Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to reach and manipulate objects, and climb or balance. Frequently kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally sit. Must regularly lift up to 25 pounds, frequently lift up to 100 pounds, and sometimes lift more than 100 pounds. Vision requirements include near, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment. Working Conditions Exposed to wet, humid, and extreme heat conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; vibration; high or precarious locations; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; and electrical shock.
