Registered Nurse (RN) - Charge Nurse Peak Rehabilitation Hospital – Apex, NC Shift: Full-Time | Night Shift Schedule: 3×12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM) | Rotating Weekends Sign on Bonus: $15,000 About Peak Rehabilitation Hospital A 52-bed inpatient acute rehabilitation hospital operated jointly with Lifepoint Health, Duke Health, and WakeMed. We provide specialized rehabilitation care to patients in the Raleigh/Durham and Apex communities. We are dedicated to helping patients recover and regain independence. Position Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) - Charge Nurse functions under the direction of the Nurse Manager and assumes responsibility for clinical operations during assigned shifts. The Charge Nurse ensures safe, high‑quality patient care while supporting staff, coordinating workflow, and maintaining policy compliance. Essential Responsibilities Clinical Leadership & Operations Oversee daily clinical operations and ensure continuity of care across all departments. Serve as the primary clinical resource for staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff during assigned shifts. Assess unit needs and prioritize staffing assignments and patient care activities. Coordinate admissions, patient flow and room placement. Communicate significant events, concerns and unusual occurrences to leadership. Patient Care & Safety Ensure delivery of safe, effective, and patient‑centered care. Monitor and evaluate patient care activities to reduce risk and prevent errors.Provide direct patient care as needed based on unit demands. Ensure accurate, timely and compliant documentation in medical records. Promote adherence to rehabilitation nursing philosophy and best practices. Quality & Compliance Ensure compliance with nursing scope of practice, hospital policies and HIPAA regulations. Oversee completion and accuracy of Interdisciplinary Care Plans. Support Quality Indicator processes, ensuring timely and accurate assessments. Participate in performance improvement initiatives and outcome monitoring. Reinforce adherence to accreditation and regulatory standards. Staff Support & Development Support staff development, education and competency validation. Promote a positive, professional work environment. Assist with employee relations, communication and conflict resolution. Encourage professional growth, including specialty certifications (e.g., CRRN). Ensure staff participation in team conferences and required training. Operational & Administrative Duties Manage staffing plans, scheduling and nursing hours per patient day. Monitor productivity, overtime and agency utilization. Ensure accurate and timely patient charge entry. Assist leadership with departmental goals, budgets and special projects. Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Experience Minimum two years of experience in a rehabilitation or acute care setting. Previous leadership or charge nurse experience preferred. Licensure Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse. Certifications CPR/BLS certification required. Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong leadership, clinical judgment, and decision‑making skills. Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct clinical activities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong problem‑solving and critical thinking abilities. Proficiency in basic computer systems and documentation.
