Retail Staff Pharmacist
We are conducting a confidential search for a client seeking a Retail Staff Pharmacist for a temporary assignment targeting a November 16, 2026 start. Coverage is needed until a permanent pharmacist is hired; the end date has not been established. Position is located in Orange City, IA.
Provide outpatient retail pharmacy services in a 340B pharmacy inside a critical access hospital. The pharmacy fills approximately 140 prescriptions daily and is staffed by one pharmacist and two technicians. The role supports safe dispensing, patient counseling, and collaboration with technicians and prescribers, without pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) responsibility.
Pharmacy operating hours are Monday–Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Occasional calls may occur, but the client reports they are rare.
Responsibilities:
- Review prescriptions and patient medication information for accurate, appropriate dispensing.
- Provide patient counseling and communicate with prescribers to resolve medication questions.
- Coordinate technician workflow and complete pharmacist verification and documentation.
- Use the pharmacy information system and follow site procedures and applicable pharmacy requirements.
Qualifications and onboarding:
- Active Iowa pharmacist license before beginning practice.
- Ability to perform the retail dispensing, counseling, and verification duties of the assignment.
- Retail/outpatient dispensing experience preferred; PioneerRx and 340B familiarity are helpful. These preferences are not confirmed client mandates.
Client-reported onboarding requirements: flu vaccination, TB screening, COVID vaccination, and the standard Client Health drug screen. COVID testing is not required.
