Assistant Director

Duties

Serve as a technical expert and coordinator in providing intellectual leadership and focus on research to initiate dialogue; generate policy recommendations, interventions, and station mechanisms.

Provide expert technical leadership and program advice in the development and implementation of national and station research direction.

Coordinate with station Executive and Leadership Teams to develop programs to share the Station's science with stakeholders and ensure effective science delivery.

Develop and participate in short- and long-range planning and priorities for new and innovative projects including the development of budget needs and recommendations for allocation of funds.

Perform long-range planning and management of new substantive agency research and development programs where precedents are scarce or nonexistent.

Monitor and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of major research projects through periodic review visits.

Oversee the release of research results in the form of technical and non-technical publications, talks, reports, and field demonstrations.

Represent the Director in contacts with key Regional and local representatives of other Federal agencies, State agencies, industrial organizations, universities, and trade and conservation groups.

Plan and direct the overall work through subordinate supervisors, team leaders, or comparable positions.

Supervises 25% or more of the time.
