Summary Improve the health status of Health Department clients and the general community. Provide appropriate health assessment, counseling and education to WIC participants. Grant funded. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Provides group nutrition education and individual nutrition counseling to WIC participants. Performs nutritional assessments for WIC participants through weighing and measuring, lab work, diet assessment, and health history. Interfaces with medical personnel regarding appropriate nutritional care of WIC clients, and acts as a liaison to other health professionals and community agencies for referral of clients. Assists with patient flow and customer service in the WIC clinic. Provides assistance in determining WIC income eligibility as needed. Acts as liaison with appropriate vendors. Maintains accurate inventory of infant formulas at WIC clinics. Handles client complaints in clinic. Refers to clinic administrator when appropriate. Researches and develops current nutrition and health information and develops client materials. Performs community based nutrition education and outreach. Performs chart audits. Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health Department as assigned or required. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, Nutrition Science or Home Economics with twenty-four (24) hours of food and nutrition classes. Proof of education required at new hire processing. Registered Dietitian and Licensed Dietitian preferred. Two (2) Years Clinical Nutrition Experience Preferred. Bilingual preferred. Skills with using spreadsheets and/or word processing software. Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Physical Demands And Work Environment & Other Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, push and pull. Regular attendance is essential. Incumbent must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule. Incumbent must have the ability to work well with others. Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves and others.
