Student Support Specialist Location: Asheville High School, Asheville, North Carolina Reports to: School-Based Administrators / Mental Health Liaison Responsibilities Collaborate with school counselor(s), school social worker, and administrative team to compile a caseload of students. Create and manage a daily schedule of students to meet with. Respond promptly to radio calls for behavior support and multitask multiple requests simultaneously. Maintain daily time logs and record data points into Google Forms. Coordinate care with the school team—including school counselor, social worker, administrators, school psychologist, EC team—to develop behavior/safety plans and identify additional support needs. Teach students skills such as self‑regulation, mindfulness, and zones of regulation. Provide consultation and/or education to school personnel (e.g., counselors, principals, teachers) as needed. Maintain and develop positive relationships with families, students, school‑contracted support personnel, and staff. Manage data within the ReSet room, provide structure for students utilizing the space, ensure a safe environment, and offer education to students, staff, and families regarding the ReSet room. Minimum Qualifications Preference given to those with a college degree or pursuing one, and/or professional work experience in a psychiatric hospital, residential treatment center, community‑based, and school‑based mental health setting. Physical requirements: able to sit, stand, walk, drive a car, lift mail/boxes up to 10 lbs, sit at a computer for extended periods; light work. Data conception: ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people, or things. Interpersonal communication: ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, give instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants. Language ability: read simple forms, prepare timesheets and requisitions. Intelligence: apply common‑sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions; solve problems in standardized situations. Verbal aptitude: record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively in Standard English. Numerical aptitude: utilize basic mathematics—addition, subtraction, division, multiplication. Motor coordination: coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately when using a keyboard. Manual dexterity: maintain minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Interpersonal temperament: deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions; adapt to minimal levels of stress.
